Blackness surrounded me. I could feel that I was laying down on a soft bed. There was a throbbing in my head and my body felt as hot as fire. I felt so tired and sore.

I didn't dare open my eyes, in case my head ache worsened. What happened to me? Where was I? Why did I feel like shit? I could vaguely hear some voices near me.

"How is this possible, Sam? She's a girl!" A guy asked. "I don't know. It's as much of a shock to me as it is to you." Another guy, I'm guessing Sam, answered.

"Well, it doesn't matter. What matters is that we have to help her. None of us had that reaction to the change." A third guy said softly. "Maybe we should go to Billy or Harry for help." The third guy said again.

Billy? Harry? They knew them? That means I'm in La Push! "Good idea, Jared! Paul, go get Billy as quickly as you can. We'll make sure to keep her condition steady." The guy named Sam said.

What is going on with me? What is my condition? Why do they need to keep me steady? What happened? Think Audrey, think. I pushed myself.

I got back from school and I changed so I could go see Leah. Then it hit me. The forest, my head splitting headache, the raging fire inside me, the paws turning into human feet.

My eyes flew open at once, but the bright light blinded me, making me regret it. I groaned, covering them with my hand. Even the smallest of movements made my body hurt.

"Easy there." Said the guy named Jared calmly. "Sam, she's awake." He shouted, making me groan again. "Do you really have to shout?" I asked him hoarsely. "Sorry." He said sheepishly. "Wait here, I'll bring you some water." He told me. "As if I could go anywhere." I answered back.

I slowly opened my eyes again and blinked many times, trying to get used to the light. When my eyes finally adjusted, I looked around the room. It was simple with white walls, a small wardrobe, a bedside table and the single bed I was laying on.

Jared came back with my glass of water and another guy that looked somewhat familiar. "Here." He told me softly, as he gave me the glass. "Thanks." I sat up carefully and took small gulps to sooth my scratching throat.

"What is happening to me? How did you find me? Where am I? Why do I feel like I'm still burning up?" I threw one question after the other. "We'll answer all your questions as soon as Paul gets back with Billy." Jared told me.

"It would be good to go outside, in case the shift happens unexpectedly." Sam said and Jared nodded in agreement. "Who are you two?" I asked, interrupting their conversation.

"I'm Jared Cameron." The youngest boy answered. "And I'm Sam Uley." The oldest followed. "And the third one, who went to fetch Billy, is Paul Lahote." Jared added.

"Well, it's nice to meet you; even under these circumstances. I'm Audrey Swan." I smiled, trying to hide the pain I felt. "Swan? Like Chief Swan?" Jared asked me. "Yep. I'm one of his daughters; the younger one." I nodded.

"Well, let's go wait for Paul and Billy outside, shall we? If anything gets ruined in here, Emily is going to kill me." Sam told us. "Wait! You're the guy that used to go out with Leah, aren't you? And don't tell me the Emily you're referring to is her cousin." I pieced it together.

"I'll answer all your questions when the time comes." He nodded, helping me stand up. "You are!" I spat. He's the reason why my friend is hurt. He's the reason the two cousins are not talking anymore. "It's your fault the two of them are on bad terms, isn't it? What the hell did you do to Leah?" I shouted back at him, feeling my balled hands shake.

Even though I've never met Emily, I knew that the two girls were really close; like sisters. Now, that's ruined because of him! I was furious. My nostriles were flaring, my muscles were trembling; I was out for blood.
