Ah, the FNaF franchise. Hated by some, loved by others. But this is more than a game of survival. It's a game of skill and attention. Let's dive in to FNaF, shall we?
The first installment in the FNaF franchise, this first game doesn't really reveal much plot. You play as Mike Schmidt, a night guard working for minimum wage in a moldy, dirty children's pizzeria. Each night you must fight to survive in your office against the animatronic mascots of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where fantasy and fun come to life. Quite literally, as the mascots are haunted by the spirits of children murdered in the 80's.
For an out-of-ten score, I'll say a good 7/10. I'd give it higher, but we'll get to that in a moment. The game starts out quite slow, and is slightly different depending on the platform. Each night starts the same, more or less, in that you receive a phone call giving you either information or a little bit of plot. The first night is rather calm, and you meet the first of your attackers-- Bonnie the Bunny, a purple rabbit animatronic with a nice red bowtie. Sounds nice, right? But he won't hesitate to come after you, appearing at your left door when he attacks. He's rather easy to get rid of on night one, and simply closing the door if he's there will get rid of him. As the nights progress, you'll meet the rest of the gang. Chica the Chicken, Foxy the Pirate Fox, and, of course, Freddy Fazbear, the namesake of the restaurant. Each character has they're own unique features and functions in-game, and there is even a hidden fifth animatronic, Golden Freddy.
The game is very good, from the mechanics to the animation, however there is one thing about it I dislike. And that one thing is story. As I stated early on, there isn't really any plot revealed in the first game. We're told some kids went missing, some animatronic malfunctioned, and some suits were unsanitary. Aside from that, we knew nothing. Whereas in the second game, we had lore practically forced down our gullet. Until then we had no clue what the Marionette was or who the heck the Purple Man was or anything like that.
All in all, I'd say that the first Five Nights at Freddy's game was quite good, it just needed some story. And that raps up my review for FNaF 1. Hope you enjoyed!
