Sam throws his backpack over his back and grabs my wrist. "We have to go. They could be here any second."

I try to process everything going on. There are armed Guards chasing after me and when they see me they are going to shoot me. Great.

"Where are we gonna go, Sam? Rodger said they were coming from all directions."

"I think I know about a place they don't. We'll just have to take a risk."

After ten more minutes of walking, he stops. "Okay." I follow his eyes and realize what he's staring at. A hole in the cement ground. My eyes go wide.

"An underground tunnel system?" I blink a few times and look back at him. "Aren't those, like, where murderers hide dead bodies or something?"

"Well, to be fair, if we stay up here we're going to be dead bodies, so, after you."
He steps back so I could go down first. I look at him in complete amazement.

"You think I'm going down there?" I laugh. "Not even if my life depended on it." I cross my arms.

"Hate to break it to you, El, but your life does depend on it. Go!" He raises his voice and I shrug. I turn to face the the hole in the ground and I walk towards it. I put one foot on the rusted metal ladder and start to climb down.

"Hope you're happy, Sergeant." I can hear him laughing as he climbs down above me.

"How's your foot?" His voice echoes throughout the tunnel as we finish our climb to the bottom. I've never really thought about my foot since the restaurant. It's still a bit sore, but I can live with it.

     "Fine," I tell him.

     "El..."

"Seriously, Sam. It's fine." I reach the bottom and step back to Sam can follow.

"Let me rewrap it." He kneels down and takes off his backpack. He pulls out a shirt and sets it next to him. How many shirts did this guy bring? I haven't changed since I was taken from my home. Man, I must smell.

"Sam." I pull my foot away. "We have more important things to worry about. Let's just go."

"No. Lemme see it. What if it's infected?"

"Sam I really don't care right now. It feels fine. Lead the way." I gesture to the pitch black tunnel in front of us. I'm terrified but I won't let it show.

He shrugs and picks his backpack up off the ground. He grabs a flashlight out of his holster and holds it out. Everything looks even more creepy now. I step out in front of me and my foot hits something wet. I squeal and realize it's just shallow water. But a lot of it.

"Do you know where we're going?" I ask Sam. If he doesn't know where we're going, we're screwed.

"Yeah," he hesitates. "Sure."

I roll my eyes and trudge along behind him.

"Sergeant." We hear his walkie talkie go off. "I suggest you surrender now before this gets ugly. We got eyes on the underground tunnel and I'm sendin guys down in after ya." All I can see are the whites of Sam's eyes. He does not look happy. He rips of his belt and throws it in the water behind him.

"We gotta go. And now." He grabs my wrist and starts sprinting down the tunnel. I sprint after him and I can feel my foot throbbing. We curve right and then take a left. I can hear faint splashes behind us. They're hear. And they're fast.
