BCL 2018 begins.
Yes, it is the first day of the much awaited celebrity cricket tournament, BCL 2018. The opening match is between Chandigarh Cubs and Delhi Dragons. Delhi Dragons being the defending champions were the crowd favorites while Chandigarh Cubs had their set of loyal followers.
In the Chandigarh Cubs men's dressing room:
Shantanu puts on his safety gears and gloves and gets ready to leave for the ground. As he comes out of the dressing room, he feels someone's hand on his shoulder.
Shantanu : Vrushy
He turns around with a smile which stops midway as he see the person standing before him. It was Krissann not his Vrushy.
Shantanu : Sorry, I thought it's Vrushy.
Krissann : It's Okay. I understand. She has been the first person who wishes you all the best every year.
Shantanu smiles at her, nodding his head in yes.
Krissann : By the way, where is your Best friend? I haven't seen her around.
Shantanu : She must be busy with some work. I am sure she will be here by the time the match starts.
Suddenly, he hears two people talking near by.
Female voice : Have you worn all your safety gear?
Male voice : Yes Madam
Female voice : Your helmet.
Male voice : Got it madam
Female voice (irritated ): Rohan
Male voice : Vrushy
Yes, the two people talking were none other than Vrushika and Rohan.
Shantanu was hurt and in shock to know that Vrushika has already arrived but didn't bother to meet him. He felt like he was no longer needed in her life. He starts to leave for the ground with a heavy heart.
Krissann : All the best Shan
Shantanu : Thank you.
He thought at least someone cared for him.
In the stadium :
Captains of the two teams, Barkha and Karan went to the ground for toss and it was won by Chandigarh Cubs. Barkha decides to go bowling and the team comes down to the ground for fielding.
Chandigarh Cubs bowlers perform really well and were able limit Delhi Dragons score to an achievable target. Soon, team gets down for batting.
Shantanu sat along with his team in the gallery waiting for his turn to bat. His team was doing really well in this match and hopefully they will win the match. As he looked around the gallery, his eyes fell on Vrushika who was sitting on the other end along with Rohan, Rohit bhai and Anita Di. They were all laughing at some joke cracked by Rohan. They looked comfortable and happy like one big happy family.
Shantanu (In mind ): Well, I guess they never felt like that with me because I have always been so reserved. I have always been introvert, hard to open up before people and who knows that better than her. Then why this distance now. It hurts to be away from her. I miss her.
Vrushika was looking at Shantanu who was standing at the other side and brooding over something. He looked tensed. She really wanted to run to him and give him a tight hug, relieving him of all his tensions. But she stopped herself thinking about previous week's incident. She didn't want to spoil his mood. This match was important for everyone. As they stood on two corners lost in their thoughts, the team lost a wicket and Rohan was send in for batting. Vrushika was excited to see him bat and was busy cheering for him. As usual her voice was loudest and the entire stadium could hear her supporting Rohan. Shantanu heard her voice and thought of the time when she used to cheer for him.
Rohan was doing a great job on the field and he was batting exceptionally well. As Shantanu watched him bat, he overheard a conversation between Additi and Barkha.
Additi : Rohan is doing a great job. Excellent batting.
Barkha : Yes. I have seen his bowling too. He is really good. It's good to have allrounder like him in the team.
Additi : I agree. The best thing about him is that he is helping others with their batting and bowling. Vrushika has been in the team for last 3 years and we never thought of training her and he did it for us.
Barkha : Yes. I guess it's their bond with each other that helped him to coach her.
Additi : Hmm. And there is our match winning hit. Good job Rohan.
As Shantanu looked around, he saw Vrushika run and give Rohan a tight hug and dance in her happiness.
Soon it was presentation time and Rohan was declared man of the match. Everyone could hear Vrushika cheering for him as he went on stage to accept the trophy. After the ceremony, they were busy taking selfies and group photos.
Shantanu was watching all these from far with a heavy heart. He felt like he has lost his priceless possession. He could no longer stand there holding on to his emotions. So he quickly exits from there unnoticed by anyone. But there was a pair of eyes who was watching all his moves. It was none other than his Vrushy. She felt bad that he didn't bother to talk to her or even smile. She felt lost without him. Even though she was happy with her team's victory , no happiness was complete for her without him.
