"What the hell are you?" The former 'love of my life' backs away from me with fear in his eyes.
"Nate, let's be calm about this," I beg.
"Stay back! Y-you demon!" He holds on to his cross necklace.
"Now, let's not be dramatic, Nathaniel," I roll my eyes and he starts to scream loudly. "Do not make me do this to you." I insist.
"I can't believe I ever loved you! Somebody help me!" He continues to yell.
"Trust me, Nate, this hurts me a lot more than it hurts you." In the blink of an eye, Nate is seated on the nearest chair, unable to move or speak. His eyes are wide with terror. "I told you to calm down. You didn't so I had to make you." I shrug.
His bright eyes grow wider in response as he struggles to move.
"To answer your question, I'm a siren. I know. Siren. Sirena. It's funny. And no, sirens are not evil creatures with wings who lure sailors to their deaths by singing." I explain. That's just a stereotype. I mean, not all of us do that. "I mean, you don't see any wings on me, do you?" I flip my long red hair.
"Mmmmpphh." He responds.
"Oh no! They're not, like, invisible or anything. That would be cool though." I light my favourite pink jasmine candle. "Just to clarify, I'm not evil. I swear. I know that's something an evil person would say, but I'm totally not lying." I inform him. I hope he believes me. I'd never do anything to really hurt him.
I walk around the room, waiting for him to calm down.
"I have magical powers. I'm like any normal witch, actually. I'm just more powerful when I'm near the sea. And just for the record, I'm nothing like a mermaid. Mermaids are real bitches and seem to hate me for some reason." I state. "Like, go take you're rotten attitude somewhere else, Aquamarine."
"Mmmmmph!!" He tries to speak. The poor guy looks beyond terrified.
"Oh, right! I'm sorry! You can speak now." Oops.
"AAAAAH! SOMEBODY HELP ME!" He screams at the top of his lungs.
"Oh, darling, don't bother. The candle that I lit makes this room soundproof. Pretty cool, huh?" I gloat.
"You demon!" He croaks.
"No, I'm a siren. Aren't you listening?" What a moron. Sweat trickles down his pale skin and his blue eyes are wider than ever.
"Please don't kill me." He cries.
"Nate, I would never ever hurt you or anyone else. I'm still the same person." I sigh and brush his light brown hair out of his face.
"But you're not a person." He hisses.
"Um, excuse you. Sirens are people too!" I'm offended by his rude comment.
"I'm like any other person. I can just do a little magic. That, and I can sing really well." I inform him. He looks a little less frightened.
"Just let me go. I will leave town and be as far away from you as I can." He promises.
"B-but you told me you loved me! Did the last three months mean nothing to you?" I question.
"I'm sorry, Sirena. I only date humans." He says coldly.
"I am human!" I whine.
"No, you're not. Now let me go." He demands, clearly not afraid anymore. I guess he figured out that I'm harmless.
"Fine, whatever. It's not like I'm holding you hostage. You can leave." He gets up and runs away. "Oh, and don't even think about mentioning this to anyone else! I will hunt you down! I mean it!" I yell as he rushes out the door.
I sigh and sit down. Dating is so hard when you're not human. It's not my fault that my mother is a siren. My human father was oh-so-fascinated and named me Sirena because of that. Not that I mind. Sirena is a pretty name. It gets me a lot of compliments. Being a siren is actually pretty awesome. Guys are always attracted to me! Or maybe that's just me. People finding out that I'm not human is the worst part. They always freak out and run away. That, and they ask me a bunch of ridiculous questions.
"Are you a mermaid?!"
"Are Vampires real too?"
"Are you immortal?"
"Do you eat humans?"
"Where are your wings?"
But hey! At least my life is not boring like everyone else's. It's difficult but good things don't come easy, do they?
