"Sirena, I really think we should go. I don't want to get eaten by a shark!" Lucia sits on a flamingo floaty in the middle of the ocean and I lie flat on my back, directly on the water.
I love the peace and quiet out here. It's the most relaxing spot in all the seven seas. Unfortunately, Lucia's paranoia is preventing me from enjoying it to the fullest today.
"Oh, honey, no shark ever dares to come within 50 feet of me. Not since I turned one of them into a goldfish when I was 9." I assure her.
"Why would you do that?" She questions.
"I was 9," I shrug. "You know how 9 year olds are."
"When I was 9, I played with Barbie dolls and made gingerbread cookies with Aunt Letitia."
"Boh-ring!" I splash some water on her.
"Ugh, just zap me onto the shore." She commands.
"But I don't wanna be alone!" I protest. "You're the only one who I can bring here."
"Why don't you bring Mason Sorrento?"
"Because, A- we haven't figured out if he's not evil yet," I start. "And B- he's not my best friend, you are."
"Aw alright, I'll stay. Could you at least poof me some long island iced tea?" I nod and snap my fingers, making a tall glass appear in her hand. "Thanks!"
She starts to relax and I put on my waterproof earphones, listening to the blues.
"Uh, Sirena, I don't mean to alarm you or anything but there are a bunch of really angry looking people swimming towards us." Lucia interrupts the music.
"People? No humans swim so deep into the ocean," I curiously turn around and freeze at the sight in front of me. "Uh oh, we've got a problem."
"What is it?"
"The mermaids are here."
"This is our territory," An angry blonde head pops up from under the water.
"Oh, hello there!" I say cheerfully. "I don't see any signs put up saying that it's yours."
"We don't need signs, Lorelei." She grits her teeth and two other heads pop up behind her, looking equally angry.
"Dude, you've got the wrong person. That's Sirena, not Lorelei." Lucia rolls her eyes.
"It's another word for siren," I inform her.
"Oh my Splendora, you're Esmeralda Lockwood's daughter! The land people love your mother much, it's unreal. Like no offense, but Devlin Hartford would have been a much better fit for the role of Casey Carlton," One of the brunette mermaids behind the blonde chirps.
"Hush, Isadora! You've been watching too much TMZ." The blonde scolds.
"Sorry, Ophelia," Isadora says sheepishly and goes back to staying quiet with the other mermaid.
"Is that a human you've brought here?" Ophelia moves closer to Lucia, examining her.
"Back off, bitch!" I create a wave, pushing the mermaids away.
"How dare you?!" She scowls.
"Ay dios mio, sharks are starting to seem like a better option now!" Lucia trembles as the mermaids start to circle around her.
"I said back off or I'll make you dumb fishes regret it!" I yell.
"You let a human into our sacred territory," Ophelia grunts. "Queen Splendora shall deal with this. Come on, girls!"
They continue to swim in circles around Lucia and her flamingo floaty starts to lower itself into the water.
"Stop! What are you doing?" I try to use my powers but they move too fast, making Lucia disappear completely.
"You're going to pay for this, bitch!" I yell at Ophelia and and start to swim behind them, desperate to save Lucia.
I hate mermaids.
