Sirena Lockwood is not your ordinary teenager. With her odd sense of humour and stellar looks, she always has guys lined up for her.
Everybody either wants to be friends with her, or wants to be her.
But the seemingly perfect Sirena has a secret...
I slowly open my eyes to see a face staring at me with wonder. His narrow eyes are as black as the night sky and his light pink lips are full. He probably uses a lot of chapstick. His long auburn hair falls onto his perfectly sculpted face. His red hair is nothing like mine though. Mine is dark, almost brown. His is closer to being ginger.
"Hi." I manage to say.
"Who are you?" He looks intrigued.
"I'm Sirena. Who are you?"
"I'm a believer."
"Isn't that the annoying song from Shrek?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Um, no. That song is not annoying. It's a classic." He defends. "That isn't what I was talking about though." He rolls his eyes.
I push myself to get up and look around. I see the café that I'm a regular at. It looks different though. The café that is usually extremely crowded is now empty. The blinds are shut and everything is dark except one ray of sunshine peeking through the corner of a broken window.
"Why am I at Cleo's? Seriously, who are you? Why was I even asleep?" I feel groggy and peculiar.
"I told you. I'm a believer." He repeats.
"Is that your name? Believer?" I snort.
"No, I believe in the supernatural. I know what you are." His eyes pierce into mine.
"Oh great, you're one of those crazy scientists who want disect me like a freaking insect, aren't you?" Why do all the cute guys have to be crazy? It's such a pity.
"No, I'm not." He chuckles. "I want to help you."
"Help me? Mr Believer, I'm more than okay. I don't need any help." I state.
"That's not what it seemed like last night when I saved you from becoming roadkill." He raises an eyebrow.
"Excuse me?"
"Makes sense that you don't remember. You got hit pretty hard on the head by that red convertible." He shrugs.
"Red convertible? Was the driver a pale blond guy?" I ask sheepishly.
"I think so. I didn't see him clearly." He says.
Wow, Nate tried to kill me. Okay then.
"I saw your fingers glowing and I figured out what you are." He informs me.
"How do you know that?" I question. Humans are pretty clueless when it comes to us. Most creatures are.
"I knew someone like you once." He avoids making eye contact.
"Really?" I'm intrigued. I barely know any Sirens myself.
"It doesn't matter. It was a long time ago." He sighs.
"Are you going to tell me who you are?" I ask.
"Right, sorry. I'm Mason." He finally introduces himself. "Mason Sorrento." He flings his arm out.
"Sorrento? Is that Italian?" I ask, shaking his hand.
"It is." He smiles.
"You don't look very Italian." I observe. Red hair and ivory skin?
"I'm adopted." He explains.
"Well, Mason Sorrento, thanks for saving me." I smile at him gratefully.
"No worries." He brushes his hair out of his face. He looks young. He's probably around my age.
"How old are you?" I question him.
"Nineteen. You?" He responds.
"I'm turning eighteen next Friday." I'm so excited to finally become an adult. Then again, will anything even be any different?
I ask him more questions about last night and how we ended up here. Apparently, he's Cleo's nephew. Cleo is the owner of the café. He didn't know where else to take me as his parents were home. I guess bringing an unconscious supernatural creature home when your parents are home is not a normal thing. What do I know about normal anyway?
My parents are far from normal. My mother is a siren and my father is a human. Human definitely does not mean normal though. Like seriously. My parents are...how do I put this? Odd. Odd is kind of an understatement. My mom is a famous actress and my dad is a celebrity gardener. Seriously. That's how they met. My dad is very passionate about his gardening. But that's a topic for another day.
Mason! Right, Mason.
"You okay?" He asks. He genuinely seems like a good person. Like the kind of guy who helps little old ladies cross the road.
"I'm fine." I smile at him.
I believe that Mr Nice Guy has an ulterior motive though. He's gotta have one. I wonder what it is.
