I feel something cold against my nose and open my eyes.

"Drink this." a voice mews gently. I lick some water off the moss.

"J-Jayfeather?" I mew, confused. Why am I in the medicine den? His sightless gaze bores into me.

"Your eye. Do you remember?" Oh. The hawk.

"You scared your sister out of her fur." I step over to the pool of water and drink some more.

"So what's wrong?" My voice shakes. He motions to the water and I stare at my reflection. Three jagged slashes run across my eye, starting at my forehead and running down my cheek to my jaw.

"You're very lucky to have survived." he points out, sensing my fear. The eye is swollen shut.

"Will I need any special training when I'm an apprentice?" He shakes his head.

"No, I want to see how you do. You have to grow up normally......" I twitch an ear.

"What?"

He looks away.

"I won't tell Bramblestar unless your eye gets worse.Go let your friends know you're alright."

I curl my tail over my paws, wincing as my hind leg scrapes against the ground.

"Thanks, Jayfeather." I mew, pulling the fur over my eye to hide it. Nobody needs to know I was hurt like that. I'm not really sure why, but I want to hide the fact that I was hurt.

I step out of the medicine den with pride. We saved the kits! I lived through a hawk attack! I hear an elder, Spiderleg call out,

"Tell us what happened!" I pad over, excited that I have a story to tell. Lightningkit pads over and sits down next to me, the other two close behind.

"Well, the kits were missing, so we decided to look for them outside of camp." Silverkit begins.

"I distracted the queens so that we could escape." Emberkit adds.

"We followed the scent trail way out of Clan territory." I continue, seeing the other elders leaning in to hear me.

"We found Treekit huddled in a pile of leaves, terrified. Suddenly, we heard a fierce shriek. I looked up and saw the biggest hawk any cat will ever see!" I yelp.

"We teamed up and climbed a tree as fast as we could, leaping at it, the other two kits dangling from its viscous talons." Lightningkit growls.

Emberkit takes over."They battled and fought like TigerClan to get them. It released them and they crashed to the ground. Shadekit hurt her leg in the process."

He finishes. I turn to look at my leg. Its bent a little strangely, but otherwise looks fine.

"I can't tell whether you four are brave or insane." Blossomfall rasps.

"Are you kidding? They have the spirits of warriors unlike anything I've ever seen."Dustpelt argues, his tabby fur rippling with amazement.

"Not even a full grown cat would take on a hawk." I bow my head. Praise from Dustpelt is hard earned. Dovewing calls us over from outside.

"You four! Cinderheart wants to see you!" I flinch. My mother will not be pleased to see I went out of camp and came back injured.

"Prepare to be killed." Lightningkit mutters.
