"I would like for everyone to get into their groups, and brainstorm on what you will be creating," Mr. Sendon said, and went back to his desk. Everyone in my group gathered around.

I knew exactly what our group would be doing. This was a perfect opportunity. But, before I could say anything, Tariq spoke up.

"We're going to build a robot!" he said, "That would be fun."

I didn't like the idea of a robot.  Not compared to what I had in mind.

I turned to him. "I don't think so, Tariq," I murmured. "There are probably going to be many other groups building robots."

"True," Ben said. Tariq slumped in his seat.

"That's why I think," I said, a little louder than I should have, "We should build a transportation device."

"You mean, a time machine?" Janel asked.

I thought. "Not exactly. With a transportation device, you can go to the future or past, and be anywhere you want in that time period." I proudly smiled.

I stared at my group mates. They seemed unsure.

"I don't know, Catherine," said Ben, "That doesn't see very practical." He wasn't wrong.

"Well, we can try," I offered, "After all, we have some smart people in this group."

"Yes," Julian added, "Ben and I are both in the advanced math class."

This was good. "You two can build the device, then," I said to the two boys. They nodded their heads.

I turned to Janel, trying to think of an assignment for her. I remembered the pretty drawings on her notebook.

"Janel," I said to her, "would you like to design the device?"

     She smiled and nodded.

"Tariq and I will write out the blurb," I said. Tariq was obviously still not happy about not getting to build a robot. I laughed at him inside my head.

"Do we need a place to meet?" Janel asked, "A place we can work on the device together?" Everyone nodded their heads.

I took advantage of this chance, realizing this would probably make me gain four new friends. "We could all work on it at my house." There was no reason for anyone to object. They all agreed that we would meet at my house. I gave everyone my address, with a feeling of victory.

"Lexi," I turned to my friend while we were walking home from school, "Do you know who is in my group for the Spanish project?" She guessed immediately.

"Ben?" Her head quickly turned to face me, and her eyes suddenly got huge. I laughed. She laughed, as well.

I still had that plan in mind, the one involving Lexi and Ben. Having Ben in my group made this plan about one thousand times easier.

"I should tell Lexi about my plan," I thought to myself. I opened my mouth to speak, but then decided to close it. I suppose Lexi can be a bit uptight. There was no doubt in my mind that she would forbid me to go through with this plan. Of course, I would feel incredibly guilty not telling her.

"Tell her later," I told myself. "I'll tell her if this plan actually works."
