Robbery

I slid on my mask. "Dude hurry up!" Joey yelled at me.

"I'm coming." I grumbled. The target was a convenience store on a corner. We were doing this for a while now. I would choose a target then we'd rob them. During our robberies, we'd steal snacks and whatever cash they had. But today, we wanted something new: booze. It had never crossed our minds to take it as we were hyped on adrenaline and mostly thought of snacks and money.

"You got the weapon?" Joey asked. I loaded the glock and turned the safety off.

"Yeah." I nodded. A bead of sweat ran down my face. I wiped it off with my finger and exhaled loudly. Usually, I was excited for these jobs and couldn't wait for the action to start. But now, something about this job didn't feel right.

'Stop being paranoid.' I thought out loud. The oldest of us, Andrew, was the getaway driver because he was the only one who knew how to drive.

"You guys ready?" Dylan, the second oldest, asked. We all nodded then ran out of the car into the store. I ran to the counter and pointed the gun at the cashier. "Put all the f*cking money in the bag now!" I yelled loudly. The cashier, a girl in her late teens, yelped and clumsily opened the cash register while begging for her life. "Shut the f*ck up!" I spat. Her fingers shook as she dropped the money in bag. I looked around and saw Joey shoving cans and glasses of beer in a bag while Dylan was rapidly shoving snacks in his bags.

We were about to head outside when we heard sirens.

"Sh*t." I cursed. I pointed the gun at the girl and cocked the hammer. "Did you call the police!?" The girl stuttered so I put my finger on the trigger. "Where's the back door?" I demanded. The girl fumbled for an answer. "Show me!" She jumped "O-okay. Please don't shoot me." She begged. I yelled for the guys to follow and we ran out the back door. Running with bags in our hands was hard. Well, for Joey and Dylan it was. We turned the corner. A police car with flashing sirens cut in front of us.

That was it. We split up and it was the last time I saw them. Well, at least for a while. I turned around and ran into a back alley, my breath coming out in wheezes. I hopped over the fence and continued running. Then, I realized I had the gun on me. 'Get rid of it.' My mind hissed. I tossed it away and weaved through the back alley. My legs flew over the dumpster I just vaulted over. But, just when I was about to exit the alley, a cop car pulled up. "F*ck!" I yelled out. Without missing a beat, my body turned around and ran in the opposite direction. I flew back over the dumpster. Footsteps echoed behind me as my legs pushed forward. I ran out of the alley and into the streets.

Out of nowhere, I was tackled from behind. My body hit the pavement with a heavy thud as a random person held me down while he yelled, "I got her!" I struggled wildly in the man's arms. The police officer walked up to man out of breath. "Man these kids are fast." He laughed breathily. He took me out of the man's arms and put me in handcuffs. Then, he started telling me some bullsh*t that I didn't care about listening to. We walked back to his car and he shoved me in. "You're gonna be inside for a while, kid." I sighed heavily. 'F*ck.' I thought to myself.
