That night
Christina was fast asleep when a loud snap made her shoot up, startled. She looked around frantically before turning her light on, but her eyes went straight to the stone.
"Christina, what's wrong?" Mr. Landers asked as he and Mrs. Landers ran in, but stopped when Christina picked up the trembling stone.
"Oh" was all Mrs. Landers said.
"Nana, papa! What's going on?" Christina asked fearfully.
"Don't be afraid Chris, it's alright if you calm down a bit" Mr. Landers explained as gently as he could. Christina nodded, her heart hammered against her ribs, but she managed to slow her heartbeat to just a little faster than normal like as if she'd ran around.
Then a loud keening around rang out. Christina put a hand on the stone and the sound quieted, but cracks began to form all across the stone. Christina gasped as it began to break until the stone was gone, now in her lap was a dog sized creature.
Christina stared in wonder as it opened its eyes and looked around before at her, but it made a small keen. She carefully offered her hand as her grandmother went to get something, but the little creature nudged Christina's hand and began to purr. She smiled and pet it gently until it sneezed and wings spread from its back.
It was a mixture of black and blue scales, and had little snowy white stubs for horns upon its head. Two navy blue eyes blinked and it had small spikes along its spine. It's wings were twice its size and it had cute mini claws on its feet.
"It's so cute" she giggled and Mr. Landers smiled slightly.
"Christina, do you know what this Is?" He asked as he sat down.
"No" she said.
"This is a dragon, but not any dragon, it is your dragon" he told her and she blinked. "We'll explain everything when the time is right, but for now, you must work to raise your dragon, your his rider"
"A dragon rider?" She whispered in awe and looked at the little dragon. She smiled and put a hand on its head before blinking. "Papa, I have a feeling my dragon is a boy"
"I didn't think you'd be bringing boys home yet" Mrs. Landers teased as she entered, but the little dragon made excited sounds seeing some meat. Mrs. Landers chuckled and let the little one take the meat, eating it quickly and hungrily.
"Dragons mostly eat meat, few eat plants" Mr. Landers said and Christina giggled.
"You need a name" Christina told the dragon who looked at her curiously.
"He's a hatchling, but even hatchling's are smart" Mr. Landers told her and she smiled, holding her dragon up.
"Your name is now be stardust!"
