FIVE

Walking to the main room, I sighed in relief when I saw Edrym. Silly? Maybe. But he was still the only one – except for Al – that I trusted. And the two others in the room were new. As I entered, all three stood and gave me a bow that made me want to hit them. Especially Edyrm. One minute he was walking around and demanding this and that, the next he was tensing and bowing.

Looking at the other two, I looked at the taller of the two, he was a couple of inches taller than Edrym, and he was beautiful. Even more so that Kharis had been. And I'd thought that he'd have been hard to beat. His skin was light, his hair was a mane of glorious gold, and ruby red. His eyes were just as unique, more so than mine as were appeared to be a violet colour with gold flecks. As he stood with a clear power, he also stood cautiously, as though waiting.

The other that I didn't recognise was my height. Blue eyes with shards of gold, were almost normal compared to his hair that was an electric blue. Electric blue braids framed his face, decorated with beads, while the rest of his long hair fell down his back in a thick ponytail. His skin, too, was unusual, it was white, with a slight hue of icy blue. Looking at him showed a tattoo of weaving vines on his right forearm, it made me think of the gate.

As no-one had said anything, I looked to Edrym. "What's going on?"

He gestured the two besides him. "We're your guards, Shorna."

I gritted my teeth at the title.

"Kyra doesn't like called Shorna, Iome'Rilli," Al said, suddenly appearing.

"Well," Edrym replied. "She'll just have to get used to it."

I knew it was rude ignoring the other two, but... "What crawled up your ass and died?"

Edrym clenched his jaw.

"He's angry because you didn't tell him you were either a Averial," the one with electric blue hair said. "Or our Shorna."

I snapped. "The next person in this room to call me Shorna is going to be hurt. And what the hell! I had– still have no idea what the hell is going on other than being told that I'm suddenly a Princess of Elves, and that I'll be growing fucking wings out my fucking back in a God damn language I don't understand!" I was crying, and I hated it, but as I let my rage out in words, I felt a little better, even though I knew I'd hate myself later for shouting at them. It wasn't exactly there fault. "I had no idea this world existed until Barbie-eye and his gang started chasing me with damn swords!"

Spinning around before I started to actually bawl my eyes out, not that I wasn't already, I went back into my room, Kar darting in before I could close the door. Going over to the bed, I laid down and cried. It wasn't fair! I had no idea what the hell was going on, yet he was pissed at me! What had I done to him except for nearly smack him around the head with a rolling pin?

Kar jumped up onto the bed where I lay, laying against me, he did what he usually did when I was upset, he purred to calm me. Not because he was happy, but because he knew it made me feel better. Damn cat, it worked too, snuggling into his soft black fur, my cries softened. Damn cat. Making me feel better while I wanted to rant.

But how dare Edyrm blame me! As I thought about it, I thought about the past twenty-four hours.

My boss hit on me and asked me out to dinner. Once I had my own dinner, obsidian skinned men started following me. Edrym saved me, but I ran home. Edrym turned up saying that he was going to take me somewhere safe. And I let him.

And now that I was safe, I was being told that I was a Princess, and was going to become Queen of Elves in a couple of years. I was about to start growing wings on my back. And everyone spoke in a language I didn't understand!

As stress overwhelmed me, I fell asleep.
