FIFTEEN
None of us had to wait for long for Soie to be put in his place by Kyra. Once I'd accepted Harmu, I called all the new guards and told them that they were to pack and arrive for midnight, a time where it was difficult to see five separete cars arrive at the mansion which was hidden in the forest. There, they would sleep, and meet the Princess in the morning.
On meeting the Princess, Troqic and Qara, the wild and lythari, the scouts, were quiet as was their nature, but they were also respectful.
Zeang, the aquatic guard, eyed everyone with weariness, but that was to be expected. The aquatics kept to themselves, and only trust others of their kind. But from the interview, I knew that Zeang would protect Kyra with his life. He, like the other aquatics, had already accepted Kyra, even though they'd never met her.
Harmu, the air guard Sergeant, greeted Kyra as the averial did. Kneeling on one knee, fist over her heart and black wings spread, she said that she would guard Kyra with her life, and was thankful that she had given her a chance to be her guard.
Then Soie had greeted her. Arrogant as usual, secure in his looks to sway... and had then spoken to Kyra in Elvish. A language I'd told him was forbidden until Kyra said otherwise. I nearly laughed when she turned to me with her amethyst eyes and a perfect raised brow. If she'd had her wings right then, I would have bowed and called her Queen.
"Get rid of him, Edrym," she said.
I felt my lips twitch as Soie's face dropped in shock that his looks and words of flattery hadn't worked on her. Haemir laughed out loud.
"Boy," Aloiene snapped. "You not speak Elvish. Wood elf tell that!"
I saw a cloak of rage sheen Soie's eyes. "How dare you speak to me as such! I should have your tongue remov–"
"Touch her and I'll cut off your balls," Kyra growled.
Soie turned to her with wide eyes, clearly seeing that things were different here to where he was from. I spun to look outside as I heard thunder race across the sky. Glancing at Harmu showed that she was paying the sky no attention, and if she wasn't, then it clearly wasn't that bad. Yet.
"But–"
"Speak in Elvish again, or speak to Al, or even Kolrien, that way, and I swear I will make you regret it."
As I watched, something flickered in Kyra's eyes, and that was when I saw that her power had changed. She was holding the storm within her instead of letting it rage across the skies. Her eyes were nearly black. Then, as they paled slightly, a thunder rocketed, and a spark of lighting hit outside, filling the room with a eerie glow through the new windows. Harmu spun her head to stare at the sky, eyes narrowing after a moment. She pulled her wings in tightly as though to stop the wind that couldn't reach us.
"Kyra," I said in warning.
Soie frowned, as I said her name and not Princess.
That was when I heard the glass of the window's sing. "I want everyone but Kyra and Soie out! Now!"
There was only a pause from Haemir and Harmu.
"Haemir, out," I commanded. "You can heal afterwards."
Soie never looked away from Kyra. "What do you mean "heal"?"
"You never heard what happened to Vaeril a few months back?" I asked, knowing he had. He was a Duke after all.
I saw Harmu frown in confusion as Soie suddenly seemed to understand just who he'd managed to piss off. As though he was a rusty robot and not a graceful elf, Soie dropped to one knee.
"I will not speak a word of Elvish until you say. I will also not despise the sajorte in word. I will do, only as Haemir, Edyrm, or you order, Princess," he paused. "I would repeat it in Elvish..."
Kyra glanced at me and I nodded once.
"Edyrm will tell me if you say anything other than what you've just told me," she told him.
He nodded, taking it as permission. "Vi oth nid quen da qurani a Eldar dryae dos quranira. Vi oth aw nid hilda vell sajorte fal qurani. Vi oth tuon, leflin isil Haemir, Edyrm, quo dos quarth, Shorna."
As the last word was uttered, the clouds cleared and Kyra's eyes were pure amethyst once again. "Treat me as you want to be treated. Treat me like a toy, and I'll treat you the same, just not in the same way." Kyra left the threat hanging before dragging Haemir back over to the sofa to watch T.V. as Kar appeared and snuggled on her lap.
As I let the others in, Soie continued to stare at Kyra like she was an alien. I wanted to grin, but withheld the urge. Especially when Kyra commented on it.
"Take a picture, Soie," she said. "It'll last longer."
