I hate walking home alone. I hate it. But the boys weren't home and none of the girls would go to the movies with me. I wasn't a hood, but I sure as hell wasn't no soc. Meaning I was game for anyone to play with. I kept my head low and walked fast. I can make it home faster if I cut through greaser territory...maybe they're all out doing stuff..if not, I have the blade Collin gave me. I'll be okay. I headed down the shortcut.
Someone suddenly cut in front of me, "Aye pretty lady. What you doing on this side of down?" A tall slick hood stepped closer to me. "C'mon..I just wanna go home. I ain't looking for no trouble." I said trying to step around. "C'mon baby. I just wanna have some fun. How can I find out if this is your real red hair?" He winked. "The same red hair that's on your....eyebrows." I tried to shrug him off. "C'mon Dal. Leave her alone." A small dark boy with big perfect eyes said. "What'd you say to me you little shit?" "Leave her alone Dally." The one he called Dally stormed off and the smaller one walked up. "You okay?" He asked, I noticed a scar on him. "Fine..thanks..it means a lot...what's your name?" I asked. "Johnny." He said. "That's a cute name," I smiled. "I'm Callie." We shook hands. "Um, Callie, can I walk you home? I mean..I wouldn't want no one else messin' with you or nothing." He asked starring at the ground. "That would be perfect Johnny." I beamed. He smiled back. About halfway there, I slipped my finger through his. He pulled away at first and then relax and left it there. We talked about lots of stuff, Johnny's really deep a lot more than most would think.
When we reached my porch, he took my other hand in his. "You dig okay Callie." He smiled. "You dig Johnny." I smiled back. "Thanks for the walk home Johnny." I leaned in and kissed his cheek and went to walk inside. "Cal. Wait." I turned around and he crashed his lips to mine. "Bye Callie." He smiled walking backwards. "Bye Johnny." I smiled. From that day on, I was in love with Johnny Cade.
