"Watch out!" Emily heard someone shout at her. Emily quickly ducked, but Dowoon wasn't as quick as he should have been. Emily cringed when she heard the water bottle hit her friend right in the middle of his forehead. Isabella ran over quickly to where Dowoon stood holding his head in pain.
"I am so sorry, oh my god." Isabella grabbed Dowoon's hand and sat him down in one of the chairs in the auditorium. Emily walked over and bit her lip to keep from laughing. Isabella kept apologizing and looking at the bump forming on Dowoon's forehead.
"It's okay really." Dowoon said with a small laugh.
"I was aiming for Jae but he kind of moved out of the way." Isabella said and glared at Jae, who had moved next to Emily to watch Isabella ramble out excuses.
"Poor boy can't stop blushing." Emily said quietly to Jae who tried not to burst out laughing. Isabella reached forward and moved Dowoon's hair to the side to look at his injury.
"He's turning red." Before Isabella could embarrass herself even more, Mrs. Post got everyone's attention and everyone went to sit down. Emily sat down next to Dowoon who had his arms crossed and wouldn't make eye contact with her.
"Aw, are you blushing?" Emily pinched Dowoon's cheeks and he smacked her hand away while rolling his eyes. Wonpil walked up onto the stage to start the presentation.
"Okay you guys! The day is here!" There was a cheer from the people in the audience. "So, we're going to announce the cast list and then directly after we're going to watch the movie version of West Side Story. There are snacks in the hallway but we'll deal with that when we get to it...Okay! So let's get started!" Wonpil pulled up the powerpoint on the projector. Emily grabbed Dowoon's hand and squeezed it, hoping for the best. Suddenly the cast list was up and Emily couldn't focus on the screen. Dowoon gasped and tugged at Emily's hand. She looked up and read the first line of the list.
Maria- Emily Gray
"Oh my god." Emily said quietly. She turned to Dowoon in surprise. He pulled her into a hug and she squealed happily. "I'm Maria!" Emily also heard a cheer from Isabella down the row. She looked back at the cast list to see who Isabella was playing when her eyes caught something else.
Tony- Kang Younghyun
"WHAT." She looked at Dowoon who just shrugged. Emily groaned and sat back in her seat.
"Hey, at least you're Maria!" Dowoon said and Emily sighed.
"I'll just have to suck it up." Emily rubbed her forehead, already feeling the awkwardness that rehearsals were going to bring.
"Jae we're in love!" Isabella said which made Jae choke.
"W-what?" Younghyun started laughing at Jae, who elbowed him in the chest.
"You got Bernardo and I'm Anita!" Isabella said excitedly. Isabella hugged Jae tightly which confused him to no end. "This is going to be so much fun!"
"Yeah, well while you guys are having a good old time rehearsing, I get to be romantically involved with the girl who hates my guts." Younghyun said with a sigh.
"Come on, dude. She's a pro, it'll be fine." Isabella tried to comfort him while Jae looked over to where Emily was sitting with Dowoon.
"She doesn't look too happy about it." Jae said which earned him a slap from Isabella.
"Go talk to her." Isabella said while practically shoving Younghyun out of the chair. He groaned and walked over to Emily who was still nervously holding hands with Dowoon. As soon as she noticed him walking over, Emily dropped his hand and stood up to talk to Younghyun. The rest of the cast was walking past them to go get snacks from the hallway. Dowoon snuck away feeling extremely awkward.
"Hey, uh, congrats on the role!" Emily said awkwardly.
"Yeah, you too! You deserve it."
"Thanks..." They stared at each other for a few seconds until Younghyun cleared his throat.
"So, uh, since we're going to be working with each other for the next few months, I just want to say sorry. About what happened today at lunch..."
"Oh no, you're fine don't worry about it!" Emily felt her face heat up at him mentioning it.
"No. It's really not fine. You were upset and I'm sorry." Emily sighed and stared up into his eyes.
"Alright. I accept your apology. I'll try not to yell at you again."
"Alright." Younghyun looked over to Jae and Isabella who were watching them both intently but looked away when they saw that he noticed them staring. "I'm gonna go back over there then..."
"Okay, yeah. See you." Emily walked out of the auditorium into the hallway. She grabbed a bottle of water and looked around for Dowoon and also a staircase to throw herself off of because of the sheer awkwardness she always felt around the boy that she cared so much for. Emily found Dowoon talking to one of the freshman ensemble members and decided to leave him be. She was going to have to deal with Younghyun by herself sooner or later.
