The Celebration

We arrived late in the morning many of us tired and sleep deprived but grateful to be alive. I stayed fairly quiet for most of the ride home. King Théoden announced there was to be a celebration tonight to toast the dead and the victorious. I was a little excited at this, I can never remember being to a party. I had nothing to wear, I had a few possessions made or given to be by others living in helm's deep, but nothing suitable for a ball. I had made some money doing odd jobs while there, but still had nothing substantial. I wondered what my past life was like, did I have merger possessions then or great jewels. The only thing I had that was even close to fancy was a necklace, a lily which now made sense since I knew what my name was. When I was found Eomer said he had found it hidden in my shoe. I must have put it there to hide it from whoever had taken me. I complained about my lack of wardrobe and Eowyn offered to lend me a dress. She said to meet her late before supper to get ready. She was so sweet and I could see us being great friends. I wandered if I had a best friend and what she may be like, maybe it was a he? Maybe Legolas was my best friend and I was secretly in love with him. Because truth be told I have very strong feeling for him.

I went outside just to take in the view. Before I opened the door I can hear people arguing. It wasn't long before I hear someone shout "this does not concern any of you. I have protected her for all her life. I will choose when she should know the truth. Not any of you." The door opens and I come face to face with Legolas. He appears hurt to see me.

"Actually Legolas do you not think it should be me who gets to decide if I should know the truth. This is my life after all." He looks down at his feet.

"Lily please believe me when I say this I mean you no harm. I am choosing to not tell you about your past for many reasons. The biggest one is to protect you. I cannot take you getting hurt or leaving again. I just need time to think. I am begging you to give me a little time. We can talk tonight after the celebration."

"Alight very well I will trust you, but I shall not let this go."

"Understood and you have my word that we shall speak later." Gandalf just stood there shaking his head, and Eomer looked very angry, but I chose to trust Legolas.

Legolas and Gandalf went inside and I was left there with Eomer.

"Lily why are you letting him get away with not telling you the truth. I would think you want to know."

"I do really but I believe him when he says that he has my best interest at heart. For some reason I can't begin to describe I feel like I know him, I mean really well. He said he has known me all my life and I believe him. If he is not telling me he must have a good reason not to."

"I guess it is your life and you should do what you feel is right, but I still do not agree with it." Eomer says.

"I know and I thank you for looking out for me, for all you've done for me you could have easily cast me into the streets and not really thought twice. You didn't and for that I am forever grateful. You are a good man. The best really."

I give him a quick kiss on the check and head in. What I did not know was how painful that was for him, he cared deeply for me, more than I knew or he even admitted to himself.

I leave to find Eowyn to start getting ready for the party. We went to her room and she chose a dress in pale blue for me. She normally only ever wore white so she was happy to part with it. It had shimmering beads on it that appeared much like snowflakes. It was a little formfitting but I looked amazing in it. She helped me braided my hair into an up do and for once I felt safe enough to wear my necklace. I looked in the mirror and was shocked to see my reflection. It felt familiar to me in a way I can't describe I felt like myself, even though I did not know who that was.
