(pictured above-Adrian Corvus)The sun was setting on one of the last few days of summer, the sky seemed to melt into hues of burnt orange, pink, and deep purple. The clouds floated by lazily as the sky continued to darken, Adrian sighed in her window seat and leaned her head against the window. The setting sun was giving her a bad headache and making her skin itch with irritation but it wouldn't last much longer so she sat and stared at the sun as it disappeared beyond the horizon. She sat for about 20 minutes staring into the dark although she could see perfectly fine. She was procrastinating and she knew it, Her coven was going hunting tonight and they were going to yet again try to guilt her into not going away to college. She knew that going to college was kind of pointless considering she was a vampire, but she had the money and a thirst for knowledge so she didn't see the problem with it. Of course her coven was more traditional and wanted her to stay home and help out by playing her part and visiting the front lines to fight in this "war".
She scoffed and stood up from her window seat and walked over to her closet to get dressed for the night. The room was pitch black by now but it couldn't be more defined to her. Her full bed stood against the far wall all the curtains around it drawn closed except for the right side allowing her to see her black and silver bed spread. Her closet was located along the left wall along with the door to her bathroom. She threw open her closet door and walked in to see her clothes hung up like usual on one wall and her dresser standing on the opposite wall. She pulled a one piece shirt off the hanger and slipped it on, the sleeves were long and billowed out at the end and the front was low cut, she grabbed a pair of black leggings from her dresser and pulled them on. On her way out of the closet she snatched up her knee-high combat boots and made her way into her bathroom. She stopped in front of the mirror and put on some black eyeliner around her eyes and some dark red lipstick. She stepped in front of her full length mirror and admired her outfit. She looked quite good, one thing she prided herself on was her fashion sense, she glanced up to her face and took in her short ear length wavy red hair and steel grey eyes rimmed in black. Someone banged on her door and she sighed, her shoulders sagging.
"I get it, I'm coming. calm the fuck down" She yelled out but still managed to sound pleasant with her melodic voice
To be fair this had been the third time someone had knocked on her door expecting her to be ready to head out, she was sure that everyone was waiting on her. She walked out of the bathroom and across her room to open one of the double doors to see one of the servants of the household standing on the other side. she looked at him with his head bowed and sighed.
"My apologies Miss Adrian, but the others are growing quite impatient and hungry" His voice was meek with fear of backlash from her
Although she was the least violent vampire in the house she knew this human had much to fear. Of course it looks bad having human servants when a war is going on but believe it or not all of the humans in service here had volunteered to be here. We still paid them generously for their service but this was a service for life and many of the vampires in the house were less than kind to them. She nodded silently and walked past him closing her door behind her. She continued down the long winding hallways until she reached the double staircase, she walked down the right side which lead to the west wing. She saw the group of younger vampires crowded around the door waiting for her so they could finally go out.
"Finally queen bitch emerges from her room, we've been waiting forever" One of the girls ground out with a scowl on her face
"Can't wait till she finally fucking leaves" Another one of them said underneath their breath
Adrian rolled her eyes and hit them with a glare so fierce they immediately shut their mouths. Although they didn't fear her they feared her parents who were the leaders of the Corvus coven. Unfortunately for her she was on the weaker scale of vampires which led her to often be a disappointment to her parents. While with most vampires mind reading, mind control, and other such powers came easy for her not so much. She thought about how Her parents must be thankful that she wasn't their true biological child. They were the ones who turned her of course, at the age of 22 during the 1920s. Sometimes she reminisced about those times, The world was still shitty but it was slightly better now; although women's rights are still a big problem. while lost in thought she managed to make it down the stairs and out the door with the rest of the group. Some of them headed to the garage while others took off at inhuman speeds straight into the woods. Adrian waited until everyone else departed then made her way into the garage all the way to the back where her motorcycle was tucked into the corner.
She pulled on her helmet, revved the engine and took off into the night. The winding dirt path that lead out into the world was lined with trees that zoomed past her vision as she accelerated to a dangerous speed. She barely felt the cold but definitely felt the wind whipping past her body and she smiled at the rush of adrenaline coursing through her dormant veins. Only now that she was out with the thought of a fresh meal did she feel the hunger rip through her. She grimaced and sped up even more finally breaking out of the woods and onto the main road heading towards town. It was about 10:47 at night so not many people were still out and about, but being as it was a friday quite a few people were still at the bar. She slowed down her bike and brought it to a stop in a darkened parking lot. She pulled her helmet off and ruffled her hair while heading in the direction of the nearest bar to wait out in the alley for someone to come out alone.
Adrian leaned against the cold brick wall and stared down the alley at a couple of cats picking through a dumpster. She squatted down and called out to the cats who all quickly came rushing over in hopes that she had food.
"I'm sorry lovelies, I don't have anything for you" She spoke to them softly
She gently petted the four the cats that had gathered around her and they seemed to enjoy and appreciate the attention and love. Eventually they all left to pick through the dumpster again except for one who stayed for the contact that Adrian continued to give. The cat began purring and rubbing against her leg causing her to smile and whisper soft comments to the cat.
"Hey! whadaya doing all alone out here?" A man yelled out his voice slurring
The cats all scattered and left Adrian alone with the drunk man who continued walking towards her. She stood up and faced the man, trying not to look too threatening; not that it would deter the man too much from whatever vile thoughts that were going through his head. She clenched her fists and fought down the bile working it's way up her throat.
Despite not answering the man he continued his advance until he was practically leaning against her, he went to kiss her lips and she turned her head in disgust. Not only was this man disgusting but she wasn't even interested in men to begin with so this made it ten times more unbearable. But alas a meal was a meal, she quickly turned them around pushing the man against the wall holding him there with her arm horizontally across his chest. He gasped out as the air was knocked out of him, Her fangs painfully elongated and she wasted no time viciously biting into his neck. The man got half a scream out before she threw her hand over his mouth. His hot blood seemed to rush down her throat almost like it wanted to leave the man's body. Her knees wobbled slightly at the rush and the faint feeling of alcohol in the man's blood trying to affect her. She unhinged her jaw wide enough to detach herself from the man's neck and watched him slump to the ground in shock.
Now was the hard part, she bent down and grabbed his face in her hands making him maintain eye contact with her. This was easier to do with fresh blood in her system but it still wasn't easy, she needed complete concentration with no distractions. His eyes met hers with complete fear and she concentrated on his eyes as much as she could and cleared her mind.
"You will forget any of this ever happened, you will only remember tripping and passing out in the alley" She tried to make her voice as alluring and mesmerizing as possible which wasn't too hard with her melodic voice.
She stared hard into his eyes and tried to form a link to plant the thoughts in his head, fake memories of him tripping and passing out. She could clearly visualize the memories happening but she always had problems planting them for some reason. His confusion and fear was rolling off of him and distracting her. She growled in frustration and stared harder which seemed unlikely at that point. Eventually she saw the glow from her eyes hitting his face and knew that finally the mental link had been made and the fake memories were planted in his mind. She sighed in relief and banged his head back against the wall allowing him to slip into a long sleep.
She stood and scowled down at the man kicking his leg as she walked past him for good measure. This would suffice for the next week at least, all she wanted to do now was make her way back to the mansion and pack up the rest of her things. She was leaving for college in a week after all.
