After PE there was 1 hour of English left. The class sucked ass according to Hyungwon, who wasn't very good at it, and therefore he didn't really pay attention. He had finally managed to sort of forget about Hoseok and hadn't really felt the urge to look at him anymore unlike earlier that day. He told himself to just let it go for a while and just be his usual, unsociable self.
He took out his notebook again and started sketching whatever his hand wanted him to sketch. He started drawing a lighthouse by the coast and didn't really know why at first but then he remembered the school trip. Their homeroom teacher had explained that they were going somewhere near the sea and Hyungwon had immediately imagined a lighthouse there. He drew the night sky and the reflection of the moon on the water. Hyungwon really loved looking at the sky at night and the stars lighting up the dark. It made him feel at ease. As if he was a part of something unexplainable. Who knew what kind of secrets the night sky held.
Hyungwon would always whisper his dreams to the moon and make wishes upon the stars ever since he was little and he never really stopped doing it. He didn't really like talking about himself to other people but he knew that his secrets were safe in the silence of the night. At the back of the class Hoseok was having a hard time focusing on the lesson. He was constantly distracted by the tall brunette even though the latter wasn't doing anything to draw his attention. He just couldn't stop looking at Hyungwon.
His best friend Minhyuk had noticed how Hoseok wasn't acting like his usual self.
"Dude what's your deal today, I've never seen you so absent" Minhyuk said as he nudged his best friend with his elbow.
"Huh, what did you say?" Hoseok asked as he finally snapped out of the daydream he was in.
"Exactly that dude, where is your mind right now? You're thoughts have been somewhere else all day, you're not acting like yourself..."
"Ah, I'm sorry, I've just been a little distracted that's all, I don't know what's going on." Hoseok said as he rubbed the nape of his neck.
"Yeah, distracted for sure. I know that dreamy brunette has a pretty face but you're not really one to get distracted by someone you've never even spoken to." Minhyuk said with a grin on his face.
"W- what did you just say?" Hoseok's eyes widened at the remark his friend had just made and was really hoping that nobody heard what the blonde just said.
"You've been basically staring at him the entire class, or should I say, the entire day..." Minhyuk raised his eyebrow.
"What's with the sudden interest?" He added.
"U-uh nothing, I- I don't know what you're talking about." Hoseok hastily answered.
"Come on Hoseok, I'm your best friend, you can tell me stuff like that." Minhyuk said with a reassuring smile.
"Besides, I think his friend is cuter." Minhyuk added with a playful wink.
Right after Minhyuk finished his sentence, the school bell rang, signalling the end of the class and the end of the day.Hoseok was a little confused about his conversation with his best friend and kept thinking about what he said his entire walk home. Has anyone else noticed that I've been staring at Hyungwon? Has Hyungwon noticed? Why was I even staring at Hyungwon? God, I still haven't even talked to him. I should really do that sometime...
He took out his phone as a notification popped up.
New message from Jooheon:
"Aye silver, party at my house."
Hoseok sighed at the text message and typed in his answer. He really didn't feel like going today.
Message to Jooheon:
"No thanks, I think I'll pass. I need to catch up on some homework."
Hoseok rolled his eyes at his lame excuse but was too lazy to come up with a better one.
New message from Jooheon:
"Alright nerd, have fun doing that 😑"
To be completely honest, Hoseok wasn't even bothered by Jooheon's reply. He just wanted some time to think things through. When he came home, he kicked his shoes off, threw his bag in the corner and let himself fall down on the couch, staring at the ceiling. He really didn't know what to do with himself, he didn't even know why he couldn't stop thinking about Hyungwon, this really wasn't like him. Hoseok was never really interested in someone he never spoke to. But even though he had never personally talked to Hyungwon, he felt like he had known him for such a long time. In fact he had. They've been living across the street for as long as he could remember. So why had they never talked to each other? Maybe Hoseok had just been so busy with himself that he was to blind to care for anyone else. He now regretted that. He wished he had talked to Hyungwon when he was still a little kid. When it was still the easiest thing in the world to make friends. But now Hoseok felt awkward. Something he rarely experienced. His confidence was gone in a split second and he felt so uncomfortable. But he had to talk to Hyungwon. He just had to. And he would. He just didn't know when.
Hoseok's thoughts were driving him crazy and he needed to get out of that empty house. He took his earphones and walked out the front door towards the library. That place was so quiet that he felt like even his thoughts had to be quiet for him not to be heard. It seemed like the perfect place for Hoseok to go to at the moment. He knew he'd calm down once he was in there because listening to the sound of pages turning made him feel so at ease.
As he entered the library he still had his earphones plugged in but he had turned his volume down quite a lot and he could swear he heard a familiar voice somewhere. He went to his usual corner in the back of the library and took out one of his favourite poetry books to read again.
The second he looked up from his book he spotted the familiar features of the boy he had tried to get his mind off. The tall brunette was right there, only a few feet away.
Hoseok didn't know what to do at first but after some quick thought, he decided that this would be the perfect moment to talk to him."Hey library boy!" Hoseok whisper-yelled.
The startled brunette jumped up a little and looked around to see where the voice was coming from. When his eyes met Hoseok's he froze for a second. Then he looked around and pointed at his own chest in confusion.
"Me?" Hyungwon mouthed at Hoseok with a shocked expression on his face. Hoseok thought he looked cute with his eyes so wide and his cheeks slightly flushed.
"Yes you, Hyungwon. Come over here." Hoseok answered and signalled the brunette to come his way.---------
