Hyungwon didn't expect anyone he knew to come to that library at all but of all people, of course it had to be Hoseok. As he started taking very slow steps in Hoseok's direction, bits of possible conversations were flashing through his mind. He had no idea what to say. To be honest, he didn't even think Hoseok knew his name. But then again they were classmates so it would be weird if he didn't. Either way Hyungwon never thought a popular guy like Hoseok would ever even want to talk to a weirdo like himself who preferred staying up to look at the stars and talk to the moon over going out and getting drunk like any other 'normal' guy his age...
But there he was, walking towards Hoseok because said boy had actually called for him to come his way.
"H- hi..." Was all Hyungwon said.
"Uh-h hey, I didn't know you worked here.." Hoseok mentally cursed at himself for being such an awkward conversation maker when he usually never stuttered or was nervous at all.
"Uhm yeah, today's my first day..." Hyungwon smiled sheepishly and rubbed his neck awkwardly.
"Oh cool..." Hoseok cursed at himself once again.
"Look, I'm sorry I've never talked to you before and now suddenly called you. This must come off a little weird but I promise you I'm not a creep..." Hoseok chuckled a little and it made Hyungwon smile.
"If anyone saw us, I'm sure they would still think I was the weird one." Hyungwon reassured and it made Hoseok loosen up a little.
"You know, it was a little silly to me that we live across the street from each other and that we are in the same class but we've never actually really talked." Hoseok suddenly said and Hyungwon turned his head sideways a little and furrowed his eyebrows.
"I was just thinking that, maybe we could... hang out some time, I mean, if you'd want to of course... not to be weird or anything." Now Hoseok was nervously playing with the fabric of his sweater, trying to avoid looking at Hyungwon so he couldn't see how absolutely terrified Hoseok was to actually ask him to hang out even tho it was obvious to Hyungwon just how nervous Hoseok was.
Hyungwon was a little shocked at Hoseok's sudden proposition to hang out and after being quiet and thinking for a while, all he could think of was:
"Why?"
Hoseok looked up to the boy who just answered his question with another question, trying to figure out what to say.
"I mean, you're so popular already, you always have a ton of people around you. Why would you want to hang out with me out of all people? I'm just the weird guy who sits in the corner of the classroom and doesn't talk to anyone..." Hyungwon continued. Hoseok's expression softened a little and you could see sympathy in his eyes.
"I just thought that maybe you don't talk to people because no one ever really made an effort to talk to you... I don't think you're weird. You're just a little different and most people don't really know how to deal with that..." Hoseok smiled softly at Hyungwon who was now looking down at his feet.
After Hyungwon was quietly shuffling around for a while Hoseok started talking again.
"You can think about it for a while if you want, I'll be back here tomorrow..." He said as he stood up. He put his hand on Hyungwon's shoulder who now lifted his head to look at him. Hoseok smiled at Hyungwon before walking away and out of the library, leaving Hyungwon looking at him until he disappeared from his sight.Hyungwon kept thinking about Hoseok his entire shift and wondered what he should do. Of course he would want to be Hoseok's friend but at the same time he was afraid. Afraid that Hoseok might end up finding him weird anyway. Afraid of what Hoseok's friends and the entire school would think if they saw the school's weirdo with their prince Hoseok.
Hyungwon walked back to the place where Hoseok had sat in the library and found the book he had been reading still laying on the little table.
Hyungwon opened the book to see what it had been about and found that one of the pages was folded. He turned to that page and read the poem that Hoseok had marked:Hyungwon smiled as he put the book back onto the shelf and even tho he didn't realise that Hoseok had specifically chosen that poem for Hyungwon to read, he felt his nerves settle a little and his worries grow lighter. After all, whether or not he became friends with Hoseok was something between the two of them. He shouldn't worry about what the people around them thought. As long as Hoseok accepted him, nothing else mattered.
