After giving a full report on what had happened, Sky was taking to the medical
branch, and the rest of the kids were taken to their rooms, which were decked out in the newest of everything. Clearly these kids were important. Walkin closets connected to every room, and they had huge TVs on their wall adjacent to their beds. But aside from the expensiveness, there was another aspect that made them different from normal kids' rooms. They all had weaponry in them. Mostly small handguns, but the oldest boy had several guns that had been taken apart, and the pieces had been labeled. There were pages of notes all over his desk.Bree walked in and flopped down on his bed. She sighed dramatically, and waited for him to ask her what was wrong. He didn't, so she didn't it again. After about the third time, he said, "I told you if you want me to talk to you, ask. Let me know when you're ready to do that. Until then don't touch anything."
And being herself, Bree immediately reached up and touched the blue Ewall decoration. She turned into a human shaped blue paper mache living sculpture. She touched the grey wall, and assumed the color and texture of that too. She continued on each time changing with a soft sound like fluttering wings, until the boy turned around and hurled a lamp at her. She dodged it and muttered, "Fine, talk to me."
He looked up at her; "you're frustrated because they put you in the car, correct?"
"Yeah."
"False."
"What?"
"You weren't actually upset because the locked you in the car, because unless there was no air in it, you could get out. You are mad at yourself because you were scared to do it. It's ok to be scared."
Bree flopped back down on the bed, "But Schuyler's never scared."
"Yes she is, she's just way better at hiding it."
Bree looked confused, "Why does she hide it, and why would she be scared?"
He looked directly at her and said, "Sky isn't scared, because she can't be. She was the first one to join the avengers, and when she came there was too much to do. There wasn't any time to be scared. She just got used to it." He looked away, "Just don't stress about it."
Bree immediately recognized the look he had when he was trying to avoid answering something, and she thought back on what she had asked.
"What about what you said about why she should be scared?"
He turned and looked at her in the eyes, "Do you really want to know?"
"Yes."
He looked reluctant, but gave in. "You know what Schuyler does is dangerous, but she is always at risk of bursting into flames and killing everyone near her, or exploding because she draws in too much energy. Her life must be hell. The responsibility she carries is huge. The fate of humanity rests on her shoulders and Stark won't even tell her why."
He looked back at Bree, who was shocked, and added, "You didn't hear that from me, go play with some dolls or something.
And pushed her out in the hall and closed the door in her face.
