It had been almost 2 hours since they had left Peter in the forest, and there hadn't been any sign of him. Schuyler hadn't actually been serious about him leaving, but he may have actually done it.

They set up camp in between two sandhills. Schuyler lit the fire. It was still dark out, and the stars were tinted by the purple sky, like violets on the biggest flowerbed in the universe. It was the darkest time of night, and their fire was the only light for miles. The blue animals had all gone. Across from her Ethan was starring into the fire. The guides were milling around, putting up tents behind him. Sky let her thoughts wander, but they kept wandering back to Peter. Where was he? Had he been lying? Maybe he had gone to look for the girl. He had known she didn't mean the things she had said, right? What if...
Sky was ripped from her thoughts by a hand on her shoulder, and a voice. "Um, Sky I..." was as far as he got. In Schuyler's surprise she lost control, and the hand on her shoulder was blasted with electricity. Whoever he was was thrown backwards twenty feet, landing far outside the ring of light from the fire. Sky ran over, hands enclosed in balls of electricity. She hovered over his face, the blue light shining on him. She groaned.
"Please don't..." he said.
"I won't."
It was Peter.
