Chapter Fifteen – Weapon of Choice
Kelly screamed as she witnessed Carl's attack on Bibi and pointed her gun nervously at him. She hesitated for a moment as he looked up at her and froze. Then she pulled the trigger. But nothing happened. She pulled the trigger again and again, but it was stuck, as the safety was on and she had no idea how to disengage it. Frightened, she backed off.
Carl laughed a quick laugh as he jumped up and quickly knelt down to pick up Robert's nine millimeter with his hands that were still bound behind his back. He held the gun with his right hand pointing out around the left side of his back. He then ran over to where Bibi was getting up off the floor and kicked her once in the face and gave her another kick in the abdomen, wounding her, and then pulled away, bringing the gun into the kind of makeshift aim around his left side.
Gabe had heard the commotion from over on the other side of the room and rushed over to investigate. Carl saw him coming and pointed his pistol and fired off a shot. The shot was poorly aimed and missed Gabe, flying into the wall to the left of him. Two more shots were fired. Then Gabe stopped in his tracks and held his hands up.
"Nobody move!" screamed Carl. He then turned to Kelly who was still holding Bibi's pistol with the safety engaged, "Drop the gun you dumb bitch!"
Kelly dropped it and backed into the chair in which she had been sitting, which caused her to fall a little backwards, and made her sit down in it. Bibi was lying on the ground in pain and didn't appear to be a threat at all.
Carl turned the gun back to Gabe, who had been joined by Chloe.
"Now, you! Blonde!" Carl ordered, "Bring me one of the knives so I can cut myself loose!"
She hesitated for a moment.
"Now, Bitch! Or I'll put a cap in your little boyfriend!" he threatened.
Chloe rushed back to one of the tables in the center of the room and returned with a small steak knife and brought to Carl slowly.
"Get over here now, Bitch!" he screamed.
Gabe attempted to come forward with her, but Carl screamed, "Back off! Now!" and then admonished Chloe, "Faster! Move it!"
While all of this was going on, Kelly had been sitting frightened in her chair and had noticed that Carl really wasn't looking at her. Gabe shot her a glance as if telling her to pick up the gun off the floor where she had tossed it. But even if she could get to it, she didn't know how to disengage the safety, much less use it.
She looked on the coffee table next to her and noticed right there was her hammer. This was her weapon of choice, one that she knew how to use. She quietly picked it up and put it behind her back. Carl looked back once or twice at Bibi on the floor, and shouted at her to not get up, but didn't take any notice of Kelly.
As Chloe approached, Carl ordered her to drop the knife on the floor in front of him and back away. Chloe complied and Carl knelt down and carefully picked up the knife in his left hand, all the while trying to keep the pistol steady in his right hand. He then tried nervously to saw with the knife against his bonds. It proved to be much harder then he likely thought.
It was here that Kelly saw her chance as Carl was completely distracted. She bolted up from her chair and rushed over towards Carl, and lifted the hammer in the air with her left hand. Carl heard the noise of her footsteps and turned to see her coming towards him with her hammer lifted high. He tried to turn his weapon towards her, but as the gun was in a hand that was tied tightly behind his back, he didn't really have the room he needed to maneuver.
