Chapter Eighteen – Theories
Chloe heard Gabe's cries and pounding and came rushing to let him into the bathroom. Gabe pushed her out of the way and shut and locked the door behind him, then grabbed Chloe by the arm and ran into the main room with her.
"It's the killer, it's the killer!" screamed Gabe, who continued babbling as if in a frenzy of fear, "Killer! Kill her! He killed her!"
Chloe tried to grab Gabe's shoulders to calm him down, but he was hysterical.
"He killed her! She's dead! Dead! Dead!" screamed Gabe, followed by a half dozen, "Oh my God's."
"Who's dead, Gabe?"
"Kelly!" he screamed, "Kelly! An arrow! Sticking! Right out of her freaking head, man! Oh shit! Shit!"
"Calm down, Gabe!" insisted Chloe, "You're not making any sense!"
"Big black Ring-Wraith!" his arms were lifted high, "He killed her! He killed Kelly!" he came closer and grabbed Chloe's upper arms, "Don't you understand? We're dead!"
"Did the killer follow you?"
"I don't know! I thought so!" he replied, beginning to calm down, "But I didn't see it after I ran."
"Bibi's out there!" replied Chloe, pulling his hands off herself and grabbing his shoulders. She warned him, "You've got to pull yourself together!"
"I know, I know," he muttered after putting his hands to his face, "I'm acting like a complete pussy! I'm sorry!" then he lowered his voice, "It's just that I was just with her and I go to the bathroom and come out and she's fucking dead."
"So we're the only ones left?" asked Chloe, "My God!"
"It's just you and me," whispered Gabe, "Oh no! Oh no!"
"And Robert," added Chloe.
Gabe didn't take much notice of Robert but just sat in the loveseat opposite the couch and buried his hands in his face.
"You didn't see Bibi out there?" asked Chloe.
"No," he replied, "The killer probably got her too!"
But Chloe wasn't exactly thinking like that. She had another kind of idea coming through her mind. The facts seemed to be at odds. Bibi had left, but had not run into Gabe. How was this possible if they were both going to the same place? A faint theory began to emerge from her mind. Was Bibi the killer? Or one of them?
"I'm not so sure about that," she said softly, still thinking.
"Sure about what?" Gabe asked.
"Who were the first people here? On this island?"
"I'm not sure what you mean?" he replied, not understanding.
"Bibi, Madeline, and Enrico were the first people here!" she said aloud.
"And the maid?" he added.
"Yes, thank you," she replied, "But she's dead."
"And so are the other two," he added again.
"Yes," she answered, "But my point is this: we all receive a letter from Bibi, inviting us to DeGeneres' house for the weekend. We all arrive and find a few people here. But we don't know how long they've really been here. Bibi could have been here for days or weeks. She may not even be who she says she is. How would we know?"
