Chapter Seventeen - Wraith

After Kelly and Gabe left, Chloe turned to Bibi and said, "I don't know about you, but I'm kind of tired of looking at this guy's body. Let's move over to the couch next to Robert. That way we can keep an eye on him too."

"Good idea," replied Bibi.

Chloe then helped Bibi up and led her around the body and towards the center of the room. As she did so she worried just a little about Gabe, though not really at all about Kelly. Bibi wasn't much for conversation due to her wounds, so Chloe just kept the other woman company silently.

"If those two aren't going to come back with some headache medicine," said Bibi after some time had passed, "Then I'm just going to get it myself."

"Where do you think they are?" asked Chloe, "They should have been back by now."

"I hate to be the one to break this to you, Sweetie," stated Bibi bluntly, "But they're probably off screwing. Gabe's a nice guy, and I'm sure he likes you. But those two have been looking for an opportunity for hours."

"You know," replied Chloe, "I really don't care about him that way. I just hope that they don't end up like the last two that sneaked off."

"Well then," replied Bibi, "That would certainly tell us something."

"What do you mean?" asked Chloe.

"If they're dead, then that means that the killer is still on the loose. If they're not then it probably means that we got him."

"How are we going to be able to tell?" asked Chloe.

"I think the only way is to go out and look," answered Bibi, "Then we'll know for sure."

"But we can't leave Robert," worried Chloe, "And what if they come back?"

"We don't have to go anywhere," replied Bibi, "I'll go alone."

"But..." began Chloe.

"I've got a gun," Bibi cut her off, "It's only got four bullets, but I'll be okay."

"But you're hurt?" insisted Chloe.

"I'm hurting whether I stay or go," she answered, "And I'm actually starting to feel a little better. Besides, Robert could use some disinfectant and towels."

She then put on her jacket, slipped on her pumps and picked up her pistol.

"Wish me luck," instructed Bibi, "Bolt the bathroom door behind me. Don't open it for anyone unless you recognize the voice."

She then walked over to Robert as Chloe worried to herself.

"Detective," Bibi spoke looking down to him, "Detective? Can you hear me?"

He seemed to wake up and murmur something.

Bibi almost teared up, "You hang on, Robert Hayes. Hang in there."

With that Bibi left the room through the bathroom door. Chloe closed the door, bolting it. She walked back into the room and sat next to Robert. She was feeling quite alone, but she kept telling herself, "Everything's going to be fine."

Several minutes later, a sweat covered Gabe pulled himself out of Kelly.

"Oh my God," Gabe panted, "Oh..."
