Chapter Sixteen – The girl of his dreams
Gabe shut the exit door from the bathroom and led Kelly into the hall. She immediately grabbed on to his muscular left arm and held firm with her free right hand, her bright brown eyes glowing at him as he turned to face her. He liked what she was doing, but realized that it would inhibit his ability to move too much.
"Can you hold my hand instead?" he whispered.
"Sorry," she replied, sliding her hand down to his. As a lefty, she carried the hammer in that hand and held onto his left hand with her right. She added, "I just need something to hold on to out here."
"Sure," he smiled and nodded. Her hand felt good to him too. It made him feel not only not alone, but along with the pistol in his right hand a little bit heroic. Though he reminded himself that arguably only one of them there had so far done anything heroic, like kill one of the killers, and it was not him. Though he was probably being a bit unfair to himself, he was eager to prove his worth.
As they carefully walked through the large house like this, Gabe was apprehensive about everything around them. He moved as quietly and as softly through the house as possible, careful not to make any noise, though Kelly didn't quite have the same idea.
"I can't believe we're out here," she whispered.
"Yeah," he whispered back, "It's kind of surreal."
"It's like being in prison in that room in there," she noted.
"Nope," he shook his head, "It isn't. I would know."
"Oh, I'm sorry," she winced.
"Don't worry," he smiled, "I'm not offended, though in some ways I wish I was back in prison again, at least for tonight."
"What do you mean?" she asked as they walked along.
"No one's trying to kill you there," he smiled, "Usually," but he added, "Though the inmates are much easier on the eyes here. The living ones, that is."
She smiled at his joke and he allowed himself the pleasure of looking at her beautiful face and figure as she brushed back a lock of her lovely brown wavy hair. She then caught him looking and smiled at him, making him wonder if she had agreed to come along with him only for the purposes of seduction. Of course, this wasn't exactly a nightmare scenario for Gabe, though he was trying to take his friendship with Chloe seriously.
"What do you do in prison?" she asked, "For fun?"
"There wasn't much to do," he replied, "Not much fun."
"No," she smiled deviously, "For fun? I know you're not gay, so what did you do? How could you stand it?" she paused, "I couldn't stand not having a man for years on end."
Or probably even one night, he thought to himself, smirking. He sighed and replied, "To be honest, you just do a lot of jerking off."
She laughed teasingly, "That's no fun!"
"That's not the worst part of it," he replied, "There's no porn. This is a conservative state after all."
"That's inhumane," she smiled sympathetically, "So what did you do?"
"I had to use my imagination," he replied, "I'd just imagine that I was with the woman of my dreams."
"The woman of your dreams?" she asked, "What did..."
She was cut off by Gabe making an abrupt "Shsssh!" with his mouth. They had reached the tile floor in the main room next to the dining room and kitchen, and Kelly's high heels made a relatively loud clicking sound on the floor, which worried Gabe greatly.
