I pulled Fiona closer to me resting my chin on the top of her head sealing my eyes shut wishing we could stay like that forever more. Though no more than 5 minutes later did my mum arrive back into the room meaning that I had to let go of the girl in my arms. I heard my mum tell Fiona to go quickly take a shower to get rid of all the makeup covering up all the 'flaws' she didn't have. The shower didn't take that long and soon enough she was back in the room with nothing more than the cuts, bruises and soaked hair to indicate that she had even had one at all. My parents gasped at the result, just like I had when I found out the shocking truth. My mother didn't say a word, just mumbled under her breath about how brave Fi was. I watched with fascination as mum brought out a sponge, soaked it in lukewarm water and began to rinse away any of the dirt from the cuts, so they wouldn't get infected. I was glad mum was a nurse. After she had taken care of everything she announced that the four of us were going to watch a movie, when the pizza arrived we happily dug in. Ham and pineapple was me and Fiona's favourite pizza topping ever. Watching the movie intensely, I felt Fi snuggle into the side of me, grinning I pulled the spare blanket over the two of us and looked over at my parents to see them snuggled up in the other blanket asleep. Turning my attention to the girl I held, I realised I well and truly did love the feeling of her wild, soft looking and now dry hair tickling my chin and soon enough my fingers started to itch to play with it. Looking up at the clock on the wall I realised that it was 6:45 inwardly groaning I whispered "Fi, do you think I should drop you home now," the reply being a groan and then "yeah sadly," she was so quiet I would have missed it completely if I hadn't been listening intently to the sound of her breathing. Pulling myself up I helped the sad girl up before telling her to go and collect her stuff as I wrote a quick note telling my parents where we had gone. Meeting Fiona at the front door we headed towards the car, me getting in the driver's side and Fi in the passengers. We arrived at Fi's nearly 15 minutes later, before saying goodbye and discussing meeting up tomorrow at her house to go over to Millard's then meeting up with the gang. Pulling Fiona tight I said my final farewell before heading back home in the silver car. When I arrived back at my house entering, I heard my parents talking;

"Jack I really don't think it's safe for her there anymore."

"Alice, honey listen we know Fiona's dad sure he hasn't been the same since Helen died but that sort of thing takes time."

"I know sweetie but I'm worried for the poor wee girl, I know she didn't get those cuts from falling off of her bike. Anyway, it's been 12 years since Helen passed."

"Sadly people break badly when these things happen but I agree with you all the same. The girl definitely isn't safe there, maybe she could stay with us for the holidays."

"Oh really, you really wouldn't mind Jack?"

"Of course not, the girl is like a daughter to me."

I jumped with glee, landing with a thump, my parents turned around to stare at me. Running up I hugged them, " Is Fiona coming to stay?" I asked excitement bubbling inside of me. The two adults looked at each other and nodded.

Later that night when I headed downstairs to say goodnight, while my mother was hugging me she whispered in my ear;

"Hugh, promise whatever you do, do not ever let that girl go, she's a keeper, you understand." I nodded, "goodnight Hugh."
