"You are soo cute," Josephine gushed. "Honestly, I'm buying you a ticket to Australia, if you want it or not. Where in Australia does he live?"
I looked up at her and sighed. "You're not buying me a ticket. Just let it go. He's just being really nice and -"
"And you're falling for him and it's the most adorable thing ever," she continued to tease me.
"Just let it go," I told her, shaking my head. However, I was betraying my own words when I ended up smiling widely when my phone notified me that Brian had replied. I glanced at Josephine and shook my head. "No, don't say anything," I cut her off even before she could say something.
Josephine lifted her hands and smirked. "I'm not, I'm not, you're proving my point without me saying anything."
Shaking my head, I let out a heavy sigh and picked up my phone.
A celebratory beer? Well, enjoy! I'm celebrating with you over here :) You should be really proud of yourself. What are the plans for the rest of the day? I'm out with some friends, I mentioned them to you. Nothing special, but I'm talking to you and that's special enough.
"Is he being cute again?" Josephine teased, nudging my side.
"Shut up..." I shook my head and glanced at her. "What if he is? That doesn't mean I'm falling for him," I defended myself, probably pointlessly.
"Mhm," was all she said before she looked up at the sky.
I just sighed and looked back at my phone, unable to stop myself from smiling when I thought about how sweet he was being. With that smile on my face, I replied to him.
Aww how sweet of you :)) Being out with friends sounds fun. I think that's what my plan for the rest of the day is, Josephine probably wants to go out and celebrate properly tonight. We'll see. Hopefully it won't be anything crazy..
I looked at Josephine and sighed. "I'm not falling for him, stop being ridiculous..."
"Whatever you say, Mira, whatever you say..." She chuckled and winked at me. "Then you won't have a problem with my plan. We're going to find someone for you tonight."
"No," I immediately told her, shaking my head. "You're not."
"Because you're falling for him...," she teased.
"No," I insisted. "Just because. I don't need anyone."
"Because you have Brian, I know. You have extravagant taste, you don't settle for ordinary English men, you need someone exotic and Australian. Not that I blame you, Australians tend to be hot. Have you seen a picture of him by the way?"
I glanced at her and sighed. "Just let it go.."
"No, I won't, you know that. You have a picture of him, don't you? Probably not just one. C'mon, let me see," she insisted, sitting up again.
Before I could say something, my phone laughed, so I had a look at Brian's message, it was a welcome excuse to distract myself from Josephine and her insistance.
Well, you should have fun, but not letting it get too crazy sounds like a good idea. Stay safe, okay? I'd personally protect you from any harm if I could, you know that, right?
He was such a sweetheart. He had always said that the past times I had gone out. He always told me to be safe, and when I was home again I sent him a message to let him know I was home safely again.
Yes, I know :)) And I really appreciate that. I promise I'll keep you updated and I'll let you know that I'm safe. You already care more than you have to...
With a smile on my face I put my phone down for the moment. I didn't have to look at Josephine to know that she was smirking at me. "Mira... I know I'm teasing you a lot about this man, but he makes you happy. You can't deny that. And if he makes you happy, then maybe you should just give it a go with him. You deserve to be happy, and I don't know how he does that, but I can see that you're happy when you're writing with him."
I looked at her and sighed. "It's pathetic though, isn't it? I mean... I've never met this guy. We've been talking for two months, and... I don't even know him properly."
"It's not pathetic, Mira. Honestly, I think it's sweet. It's like it was meant to be, you know? How did he get your number? Destiny. And then he did this whole 'I don't know what a phone is'-act to get your attention, and now you've been talking about so much for the past weeks, and I mean, it's not just one or two messages a day, you write non-stop some days, so you do know each other. Just not personally. But you've heard his voice, and you said that you really like his voice, and even though I would still love to judge that myself, I can tell that you think he's good looking.."
I looked at her and shrugged. "Yeah, he is.. but still. I mean, it's not like I can just go - go to Australia and live there. Or he can't come here and live here. It's just impossible, so even just thinking about this is ridiculous, redundant actually. It's never going to happen."
"Mira, don't say that. You don't know that, it -"
I cut her off, shaking my head. "I do know that. It's never going to happen. Just trust me. Calling is the most we can do, the most that's ever going to be possible. And who knows for how long that's going to be possible, I have no idea. It could be over tomorrow and then I'd be sitting here, heartbroken, because ... because it's impossible." I closed my eyes and sighed.
Josephine had a point. Even though I kept denying it, I was pretty sure that I was falling for him slowly, but at the same time I knew how pointless that was. There was no point getting involved in anything emotionally, because what Brian and I had, our friendship, it all could be over so soon, so easily. Our phones were all we had, they were the tiny thread we could hang on to to save our friendship, and I hated being so dependent. I hated that there finally was a nice guy who took a genuine interest in me, and he was stuck in another year. And there was no one I could talk to about that.
