"Miiiraaaa," Josephine cheered drunkenly, pulling me onto the tiny dancefloor in the pub. "Come dance with me. You know you want to," she tried to convince me.
"Jo, you know I don't want to dance, dance with Rita, or with Julie, you know they both like to dance a lot more than me," I told her, shaking my head a little.
I was really trying to have fun, but it was hard. We'd been in the pub for hours already, and all my friends were already on the verge of being drunk. I was still mostly sober, I just finished my first beer, because I wasn't really in the mood for celebrating. Still. All I wanted was to go home and give Brian a call, to hear his voice. I was just waiting for my friends to be drunk enough so I could leave. And something told me that we were nearing that point. And I couldn't wait for it.
A few minutes later Josephine came over to me again. "You're gonna go soon, aren't you?" She asked, looking at me knowingly. "It's okay, you can go home and talk to him. I understand you, I really do. Go home. Say hello to him from me, okay?" She hugged me clumsily and smiled at me. "Go, go, talk to your man."
"He's not my man," I tried to argue , but Josephine just shook her head.
"Sh sh sh, let it be, Mira." She smiled at me. "Go home, okay? I don't blame you. Sort out this thing that you need to sort out and then we'll celebrate that it's sorted out.
I nodded with a small smile. "You're the best. I really appreciate it. Thanks." I hugged her again before I hurried out of the pub. I took a deep breath and got out my phone.
Hey, I'm on my way home now. You still up for talking?
When that message was sent, I got out my earphones so I could listen to some music. That always helped to get the time to pass a little faster. As did replies from Brian.
Definitely! I'm free, just call me when you're ready! :)
I let out a sigh of relief. That was wonderful news indeed. Finally something good. I would have called him on the way home, but if you've ever tried having a conversation on the phone on the tube you knew why I decided to wait. But already before I got home, I dialed Brian's number, hoping that it would work without problems. Somehow I was nervous about that, I was always expecting the worst case to happen, that the connection would be interrupted for some reason. I honestly had no idea what I would do if that happened. I would be crushed, I knew that much. I'd gotten so attached to Brian already.
However, my fears luckily weren't confirmed this time, and it wasn't long before I could hear the voice I'd longed to hear for the past few days.
"Mira?"
Hearing him say my name made me smile. There were only few things that sounded more wonderful to me. "Yes, it's me... hi." I didn't even bother to try hiding how happy I was to hear his voice.
"Hi... I'm so glad that you wanted to talk again, you have no idea. I missed hearing your voice," he admitted.
"I missed hearing your voice too..."
For a moment neither of us said anything, before Brian spoke up again.
"Are you home now?"
I nodded a little and took off my shoes. "Yeah, I just got home, finally. I didn't really feel like going out but I didn't want to leave my friends hanging."
"How come you didn't want to go out?" He asked curiously. "Nothing happened, right?"
"No, nothing happened," I told him with a smile. He was so sweet. "Don't worry. I just... this is going to make me sound a little weird, but I was just looking forward to talking to you so much if I'm honest.."
"Really?" He immediately asked. "That's so sweet. Really. You don't sound weird, don't worry, you sound incredibly sweet. I was really looking forward to talking to you too. You have such a lovely voice.."
I smiled widely and sat on my couch, a big smile on my face. "You do too..."
"Do you want me to play for you again?" He offered.
I closed my eyes and nodded. "I would love that. So much."
"Okay, just wait for a moment while I get my guitar ready. I'll be right back."
"No rush," I assured him. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm all yours for the evening now."
"I like that," he told me before I could hear him put down the phone.
I plugged my earphones in again, so that I could fully appreciate his musical abilities. This was exactly why I had wanted to talk to him so much. Because it make me happy, because it was so easy and relaxing to talk to him.
"Alright, I'm back," I heard his wonderful voice through my earphones. "Are you ready?"
"Definitely. I'm very ready. You know I'll be listening to you," I assured him, smiling widely to myself.
"Wonderful... okay, so this is a song I've been working on recently. At least the melody. I have some lyrics, but I'm definitely not finished. Let me know what you think, okay?" While he explained it to me, I could hear him plucking away on his guitar strings already.
"I'm very much looking forward," I told him, lying back on my couch.
