When the school day was finally over, I decided to get a ride with Simon so we could catch up. As I waited for Simon at his car, Courtney Swan who is in my English and history class came up to me.
"Hey Sophie, ummm... this is kind of embarrassing, but I was wondering if you could... well... uh if you could set me up with this guy I like."
"That isn't embarrassing! Don't think that! And I would love to help you. Who's the guy?"
"Well I like Mason Herman," she said. Mason Herman is a punk, he skips school, has a Mohawk that sticks up, has lots of piercings, smokes, smart mouths, and isn't very nice. Where as Courtney Swan is a smart a little geeky girl. She loves school, volunteers for anything and everything, she is sweet, innocent, and funny. I honestly can't say that I could see them together. I've never been put in this awkward position where I had someone request to be with someone and that someone not be good for the requester. I didn't know what to say or to do.
"Do you know if he shares your feelings," I ask her.
"I don't know that is why I'm asking you to help me."
"Are you sure that you like him? I mean you could think that you like him but not actually like him its not unusual..." I was rambling on now.
"Yes I'm sure I like him! Why? Do you think that he doesn't like me back?"
"No! Well I don't know. I mean anyone is stupid if they don't like you, but I think that Mason is stupid and honestly I just don't see it. I'm sorry Courtney."
"Oh, Ok then." She says in a sad low tone, lowering her head.
"But I have heard some rumors that Kevin Crawford likes you," I said hoping to make her feel better. Now I haven't actually heard rumors that he does but I've heard him talk about her on a few occasions, which is kind of like the same thing. Right? Plus I totally see them together, Kevin and Courtney have a lot in common.
"Oh. really?" She asked still looking a little upset, but interested and curious.
"Yes, really."
She smiled, "well I don't think that I could get a guy with out some help..."
"Sure you can, but I'd be happy to help you." I say getting a little excited.
Courtney smiled and nodded then thanked me and went back into the school for a student council meeting. As she was walking away Simon appeared with a handful of papers that his teachers gave him as make up work.
"Hey, I saw you were talking to Courtney Swan," He says in a curious tone and his deep blue eyes staring into my green ones as if he was demanding me to tell him why I was talking to her.
"Yes I was. What is it to you?"
"Well just out of curiosity is she your next victim," as he said victim I gave him a harsh glare. "I mean client," he said with emphasis on the word client.
"Well yes she is a new client but she wasn't the one I was talking about at lunch. She actually just came up to me to ask me if I could volunteer my services to help her." I said in the most casual sophisticated tone. Simon stared into my eyes again demanding for more information.
"I will not tell you who the person I was thinking about at lunch if that is what your demanding eyes are asking for." I say and at this he was pouting trying and failing at giving me the puppy dog eyes.
"Well why not?" He whines while I laugh at his childish behavior.
"Because I'm evil and I like keeping people in suspense. It's one of the few joys in my life."
