At exactly 6:15 Simon and I walked into Sally's cafe. We found that Mary and Carrie were already there sitting at the biggest booth in the restaurant. We walked over to them and talked for a bit, then Lizzie came in with an exhausted looking Jane not too far behind her.
"Jane you look exhausted!" I say as she sits down next to Lizzie.
"I am. I just babysat the two little monsters." She says referring to her two little sisters.
"Ah," I say in understandement. "Well at least you are here with us and don't have to have anything to do with them for the rest of the night."
She nods and then starts going into detail of how bad her little sister is with Lizzie and I contributing to the conversation because we to have little sisters. Where as Mary is the youngest and Simon and Carrie are only children so they sit back and listen.
Around 6:30 Alana, Jacob, and James show up. Carrie crawls over Lizzie and Jane to go great her boyfriend. Jacob sits down next to Simon and Alana next to him.
"Why are y'all so late? I understand James because he said that he would be but y'all never said that you would be."
Jacob blushed making me really interested in what their excuses is because he almost never blushes. "His mom was showing me naked baby pictures of him. I'm sorry but I couldn't give up that opportunity."
We all laugh and make fun of Jacob. When Carrie and James finally stop doing whatever they were doing and came back to the table we ordered, then talked some more when finally what I was waiting for happened.
I didn't just choose Sally's cafe for no reason, I picked it because I knew that, that was where the Jackson High school boys cross country team meat on Sunday night's. Now you might ask so what? Well Peter Robinson is on the cross country team and he is the perfect match for Mary Hale.
The boys cross country team walk in and Mary, Jane, and I wave to the few that we know because we are on the girls cross country team. When I see Peter I called his name, he looked up and waved and walked over to us.
"Hey Mary did you get the math homework? I had some trouble on it" Peter looks directly at and asks Mary. I knew that Peter was lying about not getting it. He was one of the smartest kids at school and like Carrie was extremely talented when it came to math.
"Yeah, I don't have it with me right now. Let me give you my number and you can text me and I'll explain it to you." She said writing her number down on a napkin and gave it to him. He smiles and thanks her, before he leaves he catches my knowing look and he sends me a wink that thankfully no one else saw.
When our food came to our table one of the waitresses went to the back of the room where there was a stage and tapped a microphone to get our attention. "Howdey y'all welcome to Sally's cafe, today we have our once every month karaoke night. So if y'all are brave enough come up to front sing your name and song. Remember you don't have to be a good singer to come up."
Oh no! I know my friends specifically Simon, and they are going to make me get up there and sing. "No, no. Absolutely not. I am not going up there." I say before they could ask me.
I hear a course of 'oh come on', 'why not', and 'your no fun.' After a while of them aggravating me and a group of the cross country boys went up and sang badly, I said that fine I would do it but only if someone else of my choosing. They agreed and I picked Carrie who was happy to be picked and Mary who was not happy and tried to get out of it. We went up to the front and signed up.
When we went back to our seat we got asked what song we were going to sing and we just smiled and said that they will have to wait and find out. We waited until we got called up and when we walked up our group and some of the cross country boys started to cheer. Then the music came on and the girls at our table yelled louder. We were going to sing Kelly Clarkson's 'I do not hook up.'
