She wants to speak
yet she holds her tongue,
in fear of judgment and laughter.
She wants to have some friends,
yet students turn away from her.
She wants to be enough,
but she never is.
She wants to be free,
yet her image in the mirror taunts her
You'll never be enough. You aren't even pretty.
She's learning how to push back her emotions
Shut off her mind.
And move forward, into the spotlight.
But she's still learning
So for now.
She'll be the quiet girl off on the side.
She'll be me.
