After the car was parked in the driveway, I watched my parents jump out of the car excitedly to greet Ethan who was patiently perched on a step of the porch. I really didn’t want to get out of the car, I didn’t want to see Ethan let alone be in the same room with him for who knows how long.

I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing as I saw my mother run up to him and pull Ethan into a bone crushing huge. After a few kisses to his cheek, my dad gave him one of those respectable man hand shake hug things and gestured for Ethan to follow him inside.

Ethan walked up the last few steps of our porch and began to follow my father inside, but not before looking towards the car at me and giving a gentle smile.

To say his action surprised me was an understatement. How could he smile at me after how I treated him at the hospital the day he confessed his feelings to me. I thought I was pretty clear on how I felt about the whole thing and as I recall I yelled at him to get out of my room.

So why was he smiling at me like that? I didn’t have time to think about it any longer because just as soon as I watched Ethan step into our home, my mom was at my side door opening it to help me out of the car.

“Isn’t this great honey? Aren’t you excited to see Ethan?” My mom went on as we walked up the sidewalk and to the front porch.

“Yeah its really great mom,” I said giving fake enthusiasm along with a tight smile. In all honesty I was screaming inside. I didn’t know how this night was going to turn out and that was making me nervous as it was.

“Well, I’m glad you think so. Me and your father decided that after dinner you and Ethan can have the house to yourselves for a few to talk about everything that has happened. Your father and I both trust you and we think it would be somewhat therapeutic for you to talk to Ethan about that night and maybe say thank you to him for literally saving your life,” My mom said as we stepped into the foyer of the house.

I wanted so badly to yell at the top of my lungs that I wasn’t ready to see or talk to Ethan, but as soon as I saw my mothers hopeful face, I bit my tongue and nodded slightly in agreement. I would do what my parents wanted of me seeing as I did try to take my own life which, in the process hurt them in more ways then I had thought.

I watched my mom take off to the living room, where I could hear my dad and Ethan having a conversation. Taking a deep breath to compose my nerves, I waited a few more seconds before following in my mom direction to the living room.

Once I stepped into the room everyone stopped talking and looked over to me. I was getting used to all the attention from my parents, but when I slid my vision to Ethan and saw his deep intense dark green eyes boring into me I immediately had to shy away. To cover up my embarrassing reaction to Ethan’s stare, I quickly started up a conversation of my own while making my way to the sofa that my parents were already sitting on.

“So, Mom what are you making for dinner? A whole three days in the hospital with nothing but hospital food is not a way to live,” I said trying to lighten the mood and get the attention off of me at the same time. But to my own horror as soon as I said that everyone started to look uncomfortable.
