Chapter 13

Growing Alphas Prep School

Onyx's POV

"School mail! School mail!" Some random speaker screamed, with more pink packages flying out of an opening in the wall. I saw the pink packages, as both smacked me straight in the forehead, smacking my head into the headboard.

This is what happens when you don't get off my bed when that random speaker yells those two annoying words.

"Fuck!" I yelled, rubbing my now throbbing head, and throwing one of the pink packages to Carrie's bed. For a minute, I wished that she was there to catch it, and so I could complain and rant about the messages. She'd always laugh, and agree with me. It then faded, and I opened the box.

Inside were all kinds of adminastrative notices, some flyers for the clubs in the school, and a notice about volleyball tryouts that took place September nineteenth. I then saw that there was also a red rolled up paper in there, that caught my attention.

I unrolled the paper, and read it.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Growing Alphas Prep!

On September 17th, there is going to be the 150th annual homecoming dance! Pick out your dresses soon, and be ready!

Cutest couple wins homecoming King and Queen, and there is going to be a special performance from new pop sensation Alexs Merand!

It will be between 7:00PM to Midnight! Hope to see you there!

Now that is cool! I thought to myself, staring at the red paper happily. Dances were always cool to me. At my old school, whenever there was a dance, all of my friends and I would dress crazy, and I would show off my break dance skills. People thought that my dancing was awesome.

Well, things in the past weeks have changed, I needed to keep those things at a minimum. People might think things other than "Wow! That chick is awesome!"

Wait, when did you start to change? I found myself wondering, still staring at the red piece of paper. Two days ago, I would have run to Carrie, asking her to come with me. Now, I feel that is not an option. Only not an option because Carrie decided to overreact when I was shocked that she liked me. Since then, we have parted ways.

Besides, Chase was probably going to ask me anyways. If not, then I'll find another hot dude, I really would feel embarassed being there alone.

Since when did you care if you were alone? I asked myself, as rolled the piece of paper, and put it back in the pink box. I looked through the box some more, seeing advertisements for dresses and suits from many exclusive fashion designers.

I closed the box, listening to my stomach growl. Victoria said that soon I'd have to go on a diet and come to a size zero. She said that it was terrible to be not skinny at this school, and to stay cool, you'd have to have a perfect figure.

Sounds like my mother at times. No wonder my mother sent me here. Yet, I could see that it was right, considering that only the pretty girls out there get men.

When did you start caring about your weight? I asked myself, then brushing it off. I was going to have to stop doubting myself too. I had a feeling I was going on the right direction, and there was nothing that was going to change that for the time being.

Then again......... I might also be wrong.

Carrie's POV

"Yeah, that character is unreadable." Thunder said, taking another drink of Pepsi, and pushing her glasses closer to her face.

"The girl used to be so nice and deep thinking. Over the past weekend she has just..... changed. Maybe she is one of those snobby girls that goes with whatever makes people like her. Maybe she is some kind of attention whore or something."I explained.

"No, Onyx is no attention whore from what I have heard. Maybe she is just misinformed and gullible." Thunder suggested, as she sat on a bench near Vickie's where they had mannequins that had on very formal dresses. Interesting.

"Who knows. Either way she is an idiot. I shouldn't even like her anyways, I'll find someone someday." I sighed, looking a green puffed out dress with jewels around the skirt.

"Yeah, she is hot though. I could see why any girl that was not straight would fall straight down for her." Thunder added, finishing her Pepsi, and throwing it into the nearest trashcan, "Yet, she's as pathetic as the next one. From what I hear you say about her, she sounds like she used to be cool though. Sad how people turn out."

I looked at Thunder, her long tye dye skirt barely touching the ground. I had barely known her, and yet now I have been talking with her for the past three hours like we were the closest friends. No wonder why people say that she is awesome, she is so enjoyable and approachable. Something that Onyx wasn't, and probably never will be the way that things are going.

"Anyways, she is going out with Chase, she's out of everyone's league now. Anyone who goes out with that guy, is someone that is exclusive to the people that wear Prada like it is something people wear everyday." I complained, and Thunder shrugged.

"Too bad really." Thunder then looked at Vickie's and then the place next to it.

"What you looking for?" I asked, and Thunder looked at me.

"Who knows? I feel like there is something important going to happen today. I've had that feeling since the past three hours. Something tells me that some very significant things will happen to you and Onyx very soon." Thunder answered, looking around again, and then looking at her clock.

"Nine o'clock. I think that it'd be best if we both went home for the night." Thunder suggested.

"Alright. See ya." I said, getting up, and walking t'ward the exit of the Mall. I felt relieved telling Thunder everything for the time being. If she was anything like any of the other sophomores in this school then she was probably going to tell everyone everything by tomorrow. If she really wasn't like she said she was, then everything is safe between her and me.

Now, just to get those feelings of Onyx out of my mind. I thought, skipping out of the Mall, accidently seeing some guy kissing another girl. The guy oddly looked a lot like Chase, and I looked again. It probably wasn't, and even if it was, then I really did not care. It was Onyx's funeral afterall.

I walked away from the couple, stilll happy, but now something was clouding my mind. Was that really Chase? If it was, then how does someone explain something like this to Onyx? I then for a reassuring glance, I walked back over to the making out couple, to see that they weren't there. All I saw was a guy, getting his jacket on.

Soon, he looked at me, and I felt a pain in my chest, and I gasped.

It was Chase.

"Carrie, what are you doing?" Chase asked, agrivation setting into his voice.

"What are you doing?" I shouted.

"Uh, none of your business. Don't be so possessive creepy." Chase complained, then walking away. Anger rose inside of me. Okay, maybe Onyx was the biggest bimbo out there, but I was not going to let someone hurt her.

"Aren't you going out with Onyx?" I asked, and Chase looked back at me.

"Yeah. Why is that any of your business? Three weeks into the week and you are destroying their lives." Chase answered, still staring at me, as if I was some piece of crap that was lying out there on the road.

"Then who was that you were kissing?" I asked, and Chase rolled his eyes.

"Jessica. Now leave me alone, you loser creep." Chase answered, walking away.

My heart sank. Onyx was about to be in a lot of pain, but then again, something had to wake her up. I could try, but there was probably nothing that I could do that would make her understand.

Oh well. I thought to myself, sorrow then raining on my parade. Someone I liked, I knew was going to have the rudest ever awakening ever. I hoped she wasn't too much into him, maybe that might make the pain not as bad. I hope anyways.

Yet, sometimes hope was not the strongest weapon that you should have.
