Calum stares out the window as we drive down the highway towards the airport.
How could I have been such an idiot to voulenteer to go with him to pick up his girlfriend?
Madeline. Shes his 'dream girl' and is hopefully moving in with him next spring. Oh goody.
Calums phone dings and he rushes into his pocket to get it. "She just landed!" He cheered. "Are we almost there?"
My fingers tense around the steering wheel. "Yup, the exits just up ahead." I say, holding in my snippy tone. I'm not jealous of her, I'm jealous of the sappy relationship they have.
Something I want.
But it's too soon, I need to focus on myself for a while.
I hope I'm even capable of focusing on myself.
I get lonely too easily, I need someone in my life. Someone to wake up with and have breakfast in bed, to cuddle with on rainy days. Someone who truly loves me.
Although, I've never been able to love myself, so I can't really expect someone else to love me.
I pull into the pick-up line at the airport and Calum jumps up in his seat, searching for Madeline like a little boy looking for santa claus.
"She's right there! Next to the man in the green jacket!" I pull up a few feet and kill the engine. He unbuckled his seatbelt and opened his door to greet her.
Before I can even look at her, my eyes are glued to the man with the green jacket. And that's when I realize who it is.
I quickly turn the car back on and motion for Calum to hurry up and get in.
The two of them throw a suitcase in the back and scoot in together. I look in my rearview mirror to see a stunning tan girl with long black hair.
"Hi, I'm Madeline." She smiles up at me.
"Sam. Nice to meet you." I say while slamming on the gas. I need to get away from here as soon as possible.
Calum groans and a squeak comes from Madeline. They both look up at me in confusion.
"Sorry, just trying to hurry back so y'all can catch up on things and get Madeline settled in." I lie. My voice trails off and my breath is shaky. I need to get home as soon as possible.
The man in the green jacket is my parole officer.
