The fork that's in his hands, gets crushed by his grip, twisted, unreconziable.

I stare straight ahead. His anger is terrifying and for the first time since I've met the king, I feel real fear. Fear of him. Fear of what I've gotten my stupid self into.

Idly, I wonder if I've already pushed him too far. The devil himself sick of me already. What a shame, I think.

The quietness of the once too loud room closes in on me.

I've never been too fond of people anyways, and the amount of people here, plus to the anger of the man I'm currently sitting on, makes me want to run. Sprint.  Maybe find refuge in the forest that still calls my name so sweetly.

"Leave." The king's voice is terrifyingly soft. The essence of danger lying, not so unassumingly, beneath it.

Utensils clatter to plates, men whisper to the women on their laps, words I can not make out, words that I do not care to make out.

Even the beta, who's name I already forgot, or did I even get his name? It does not matter, even he stands to leave.

Natia leans down to the blue-eyed girl on her lap and says something to her, my human ears not quite able to pick it up. But the beta obviously did, if the rolling of his eyes says anything.

The action seems out of place on the beta. His expression so serious the only other time I had seen him.

The girl gets off Natia's lap, making a quick exit with the beta.

Natia gives me a once over and our eyes connect for just a moment. I plead with her, with just my eyes. Hoping my message gets across.

Help me, please.

All I get in return is a warning in her eyes. I warning I do not want to read into.

At that, she goes the same way the others had. The same sharpness and grace in her steps as a wolf. A hunter at heart. A loaded weapon of a girl.

I suddenly realize just how alone I really am. A girl trapped by wolves. Nowhere to go and nowhere to hide.

The king had warned me of that.

As soon as the heavy doors slam behind Natia, I'm off the king's lap. He doesn't try to stop me, the gods had blessed me with that.

He stands quickly, I can see his muscles moving underneath his dark shirt.

We're a good two feet away from each other.

His eyes meet mine, dark as the night, and I do not back down.

He is intimidating, I'll give him that. But he is not the first ruthless man I've met, and I truly doubt he'll be the last.

I have nothing to fear from the king in front of me. At the end of the day, he is just a man. A monster? Yes. But a man he still is. At the end of the day, you may come to realize men and monsters aren't so different. In fact, I've come to think of them as one and the same.
