also you should def listen to this song on repeat while reading this chapter....trust me

Her face was so awfully beautiful. In a way that could not nearly be human. Anything but.

Hair that matched the green of the leaves of the tree's I love so dearly. Skin as dark as it's shaded bark. A smile sharp enough to get me to take a step back.

A fae.

A very hungry looking fae.

"Wolf Queen," she says with a tilt of her head.

I'm tempted to lie. Would that make me a target? Or would it deter her? So many chances, so many close calls. Has my luck finally run out?

Nehulla had gone off chasing a rabbit for her morning meal and I was alone. Alone with a fae.

"You've made a mistake," I say, no tremble in my voice.

She laughs.

"Liar."

I raise my eyebrows.

"Maybe," I respond.

Her laugh bubbles out of her, soft, like the sound of chimes. Very fae like.

"My Queen did say you were more wolf than your king," she pauses less than a second, "She was not wrong."

Yes, she was.

And what is a Fae Queen doing talking about me?

The fae's violet eyes alight with some sort of excitement, "You are not alone, Wolf Queen, you have a very convincing friend. Keep my queen's words near, we are tired too. You are a lucky wolf, girl."

"I have no friends. Don't hide behind riddles fae, what do you want?"

"We want nothing."

"Liar."

She smiles again. "Maybe."

I am too exhausted for this shit.

"You should leave, something tells me you aren't supposed to be here."

She straightens her back.

"There isn't much time left, you are right." She eyes the sky, squinting at the just rising sun.

She walks up to me lazily, I'm frozen in fear.

We are now face to face, she looks down at me while bringing a clawed finger to my face. I don't flinch as she gently brushes my cheek.

"I've always found humans so beautiful in their simplicity, it's been so long since I've seen one so near." Her lips brush mine when she speaks, she is so close.

And then she is gone as fast as the winds of the forest.

And I'm left breathless.

"You're a useless wolf," I grumble at Nehulla. "Disappearing when I need you the most."

She does not answer my words, obviously, she is a wolf. Her muzzle is stained a light pink from the rabbit she must've caught earlier.

She trots along next to me as I make my way back to the house. I don't plan on seeing Anula today, with my lack of sleep last night I don't think I have the patience for her savior complex.

"You smell like a fae."

I whip my head around and see Natia. Her head angled towards the side, a questioning look on her face.
