An old woman.
Before me stood an old women.
A fragile, old women who had managed to stop my arm from slamming into the side of her ribcage with an extremely strong grip. A wrinkled, writhed, stone cold face stood staring at me.
This is the face of death. It must be.
What was it my mother had said? Monsters never look like monsters. Child, it is what lies beneath.
And under the face of the women in front of me, I can tell nothing but a wolf is waiting.

I sent out a quick prayer to Onja and Hylla. I do not like this place. I do not like this woman.
Her voice had been strong, unyielding, not quite fitting with what she looks like.
My heart was beating so fast I was sure it would pop out of my chest. The woman still has a grip on my arm, which I notice when she quickly jerks me towards her.
Finally, It seems I have full control of my body and I do the only thing I can think of.
Trying to get out of her unusually strong grasp, I violently thrash, trying in vain to pull my arm back.
The woman's face curls up in a smile, I struggle more. She starts pulling me even closer so I'm left with only one choice, I spit right in her damn face. I may pray to the god of death, but I am not leaving this earth today.
She ducks it quickly and her next words come out quite impatiently, "Would you stop acting like a cornered animal for one-minute girl? "
I say nothing in response. If I wasn't tense before I definitely was now. Her blue eyes were so harsh. Demanding.
Maybe the fucking wolf king just didn't want to come in here. I sure as hell wouldn't.
I just stop struggling. Stop fighting. What was I even fighting for anyways? My life is in shambles. I have nothing. No one. The wolves have taken everything from me. Everything and nothing and anything in between.
What has become of me?
As soon as I relax, the woman eyes me up and down, her grip still unrelenting.
"The king did say you'd be a wild one. He did not lie. For once." She gives a wry smile, one that has a shiver roll up my spine. The fire can't even seem to warm this place up.
"Oh stop the dramatics. I would never hurt you," She smirks and steps back, releasing my wrist at last, "Not unless I wanted my head on a stick."
I don't listen to what she has to say, instead, I eye the door that was but 2 feet away. Maybe I could make it. Just one second...
"Don't even think about it little fox. " She throws over her shoulder, not even giving me a second glance, "You wanted answers. So you will get them."
Even with her warning words, I glance back at the door. I'm rendered speechless when the strings that were in the doorway mere moments ago, is now replaced by a heavy oak door.
I groan in annoyance. It feels the hounds of death are constantly at my heal these days.
"If I let you out of my sight for one moment, the king would kill me without a second thought. So just hush up fox." She looked towards the fire, "He may be smart, one of the most vicious cunning kings we've had. But all wolves turn to violence when it comes to their mates."
As she stared into the fire, the fire seemed to stare back. It is my turn to observe her. Her hair is pulled back into a severe bun, she stands tall, unwavering by the age that plagues her.
