Forty-seven: Weird
The ride home was quiet as ever. Not that I mind—I'm used to it—but there was this weird atmosphere that surrounded us all throughout the drive. I didn't attempt to break the silence because, I must admit, I might not like what he had to say earlier.
I would steal glances whenever I feel like he's not looking, and would notice how he's clenching his jaw whenever his lips are about to part.
What is with him? he's acting all weird again.
You're probably just being numb, like he said.
I'm not being numb.
So you're playing dumb.
Ugh. I rolled my eyes inwardly.
And I'm the one driving him mad? He's doing the same thing!
He went straight to his office as soon as we stepped inside the house, and I went straight to the kitchen for a glass of water.
"Hey" called a voice and I almost yelped.
I shook my head, "Andres!" I sighed.
"You startled me a bit." I mumbled and he chuckled."You're the one who came in unannounced," he said before taking a bit off his sandwich.
"Do you want some?" he offered and I shook my head."No thanks," I smiled a little.
I grabbed a glass and filled it with water and my eyes scanned the room before catching a glimpse of Andres who was looking at me.
My eyes met his and we both looked at each other in silence.
How is he by the way?
"How've you been?" I decided to ask, whispering a little prayer for him not to mention what happened the last time we were together.
"Fine," he answered rather too shortly.
I just nodded, not sure how I'm going to approach this sudden distance I felt with the way he answered my question. He would usually talk a lot and tell me how he's been since we last saw each other, but not now.
I placed the glass on the sink and started to walk away when he called my attention.
"It must be getting pretty serious now, huh."
"I'm sorry?" I furrowed my brows as I faced him.
"Heard he took you to his secret place. He never takes anyone there except you."
Oh, the secret HQ.
"I don't see anything big out of it." I muttered and folded my arms as I waited for him to say something in return.
A moment of silence, and then: "So has he told you yet?"
"Told me what?"
This is getting a bit annoying for me.
"Felicity."
I turned to see my employer-slash-fake-fiancé standing just a few feet away from me and I suddenly felt even more annoyed.
What do they all know that I don't know? What isn't he telling me?
From the corner of my eye, Andres walked past me and paused when he was just standing beside our employer.
"Guess big and mighty Adam isn't too brave after all." He scoffed a little and started to walk. "I'll be gone for a while, dad needs me."
He waved goodbye as he continued to walk away and I watched him.
When the front door clicked close, I decided to go to my room, with the silent giant walking after me.
"You have to go somewhere, right?" I said as I walked in the closet.
"Do you really want me to go?"
I sighed and walked out of the closet.
"It's for our future, right?" I mockingly asked and noticed the corner of his left eye twitched.
"I feel like we should talk."
"No," I shook my head. "You go to that meeting, I'll just be here. I'm still a bit tired anyway."
"I don't want to leave you all annoyed like this."
I felt my brows rise as I looked at him.
How did he know that I'm annoyed?
Probably because of your generously expression-filled face.
Probably.
"I'm fine," I breathed out. "Don't mind me, it's not like I'm just gonna leave while you're gone. You'd probably find me Netflixing or sleeping when you get back."
"Do you want to go out for dinner?"
I felt like smiling at his offer but I stopped myself. I'm annoyed, right? So I should act like it.
"I'll just make something from scratch here."
I noticed how much he wanted to argue, so I decided to push him out the door.
It wasn't easy though, he was heavy as shit. It's like trying to roll a drunken Thor out of the bar. Not that I know how heavy Chris Hemsworth is though.
I was about to walk back in when he gently grabbed me by the wrist and my face collided with his chest made of adamantium.
"I won't be long," he muttered in an awfully sweet manner, I swear I just had diabetes.
"You. Are. So. Freaking. Weird." I muttered in his chest as he wrapped his arms around me.
"You'll understand why as soon as I get home."
"Why do I feel like I don't want to see your towering figure so soon?"
He chuckled at my question and I shook along with his body as he did, since I was still trapped in his arms.
I'm gonna collapse anytime soon, I know it. This is probably how it feels to be crushed by a building—or an elephant.
"I'll see you later, okay?" he said and released me.
I felt a bit dizzy all of a sudden and he steadied me.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I nodded and looked at his concerned eyes. "I just felt like I lost a lot of oxygen while I was drowning in your scent, but I'm fine now."
For some reason, I found my hands planted in his firm arms as his big hands held onto mine. My eyes made their way to his chest and I suddenly felt sad that I'm no longer trapped there.
Aww!
Shit. Why am I even thinking this way?
Sometimes I feel like I should stop interrupting your moment of sweetness. It seems like I have the tendency to snap you out of your thoughts!
I cleared my throat and shook my head a little before taking a step back.
My hands slipped gently down his arms and his hands held them for a second before letting them go. I felt my fingers tentatively reach out to his and I immediately stopped them by balling my hands to fists.
Oh holy Deadpool, something is wrong with me.
"I promise I'll call if I'll be late," he said with a smile and planted a short kiss on my forehead.
"Okay," was all I managed to mumble.
He gave me one last lingering look before he closed the door behind him.
"Be safe." I whispered as I stared at the closed door.
