[OLD] Wolves in the Stars

Chapter 6- Crash Landing

Despite how much he didn't want to, Corro ended up falling asleep while Aura was still flying.

Aura had gotten herself into a position where she could glide along the air current with ease and not use a lot of her energy constantly flapping her wings to stay airborn.

During their flight they had flown massive distances over the woodlands and were now coming close to the Mountains. They were coming close to their destination. If everything went according to plan, they'd be landing by sunrise.

But things didn't go to plan.

As Aura flew she noticed something behind her.

Smoke?

Smoke began to slither through the clouds around Aura like a snake, Though hard to see the moonlight was able to bring it to her attention.

Aura immediately sensed danger and nudged Corro, waking him up

"Corro, wake up. We've got company, hold on tight" she told him quietly

From a small distance away the smoke solidified into a huge crow with smoke flaking off it's feathers. It's body was a bit bigger than Aura but it's wingspan was the same size.

When the beast opened it's razor sharp beak, it let out a bone chilling screech. The Bird swooped it and rammed it's huge body into Aura with incredible speed. Tipping her off balance she flips and starts going down. Corro held onto her as best he could.  Aura rebalanced herself and the bird curved around in the sky, the moonlight shining on it's feathers highlighting the shiny black colours.
As it flew towards them to attacked, Aura wiped around and bite down on the birds neck and dug her claws into it's chest.

The Smoke bird screeched again and thrashed it's wings and body around to free itself. But it didn't look or sound like it was in pain, it seemed like it just wanted to avoid being destroyed.

The bird's giant and sword-sharp claws tore at Aura's thigh and stomach. A tear of pain dripped from her eye and in a reflex she let go of the bird's neck.

Finally free the bird bit Auras wing and thrashed it's head back and forth to make the wound bigger. Corro, finally working up the courage to do something, bite down on the birds neck again and pulled with all his strength! The bird's neck was already torn into half way so Corro's attack riped off the bird's head completely and the bird vaporised into dust and smoke before disappearing completely .

After that Aura was weak and exhausted, her wing bleeding and torn as well as her body. She had no choice but to land. They made a pretty rough landing, Corro being thrown off and hitting the ground and Aura toppling over as she landed and layed on the ground panting.

Corro pulled himself together and ran over to Aura. He asked her if she was okay, a stupid question of course she wasn't but he thought he should ask anyway.

"ugh.. I'll be fine.. We're close enough...for them..to hear us" She uttered as she panted.

"what? What are you talking about?" He asked

Aura lifted her head up and howled a special melody. A Tune that echoed for hundreds of kilometres to let other wolves who hear it know that the wolf making the howl is close by and is in need of help.

Corro decided to howl with her. Just to be safe.

After she stopped howling they sat and waited for a while. Aura assured Corro that someone was coming to help.

While they waited, Corro thought he'd pass the time by asking Aura some questions

"What was that thing that attacked us?" he asked

"..A Smoke Beast" She replied

"Where does it come from?"

"It's made"

"By what?"

" A wolf. With a special and dangerous gift"

"A Gifted wolf?"

"Yeep"

"Then why did it try to kill us?"

"It was probably rouge. Left behind by it's creator. So without commands from it's creator it does the one thing it was created to do. Kill"

"Oh. It must have been the thing that was following me, before you found me and sorta wolfnapped me"

"Heh. Yeah sorry about that. I didn't really have a choice. I was just following orders"

As they continued to talk a howl was heard from a small distance away. And a few moments later 3 wolves ran towards Corro and Aura

One wolf was completely black furred all except for his ear, a patch on his left eye and back left paw which was a caramel brown. And had one blue and one green eye.

The other was completely pale brown with fiery orange eyes and 5 black stripes each around his two tails!

The third one had a milky white coat and had black cow-like spots all over her body. However she was missing half of her right ear. It looked like it had been bitten or torn off earlier in her life. Her eyes were a warming yellow

The spotted wolf and the twin tail wolf both helped Aura to her feet and let her lean on them while she walked.

The brown wolf noticed Corro and growled at him defensively.

Corro subconsciously made his fur glow for a few seconds before stopping which surprisingly made the brown wolf stop growling and turning to join his partners in leading the two travellers to their destination.

Corro followed behind with his head held down
