True Colors

I'm the girl in the mirror,

I'm the girl down the street,

But I'm not the girl I always thought I could be.

I'm better, maybe stronger, even more prepared

And I'm what I need to be,

I'm the one who always cares.

I can show you what you mean to me,

Or tell you that you don't

But deep inside my heart,

I'm just the girl that's left alone.

People never see me

As who I really am

They just stick with what I show them

And never really understand.

But who can really know me

When I don't let people in

I'm just scared of what they'll see

When I show them who I am.

This poem was inspired immediately after finishing the book "Every Last Word" by Tamara Ireland Stone. I recommend it to everyone. It's amazing!!!!!
