From long sleeves to bruised eyes,

You hide behind masks and tired lies

Your friends and family ask, "What happened?"

But you just fake a smile and reply, "I'm fine."

He leaves at late hours of the night

Never telling you where he's going or why

But the second you leave, you get the third degree

"Who you going out with, where and how long you gonna be?"

It's a vicious cycle of watching and waiting

Wondering when you'll finally get tired of this game he's playing

You're too scared to leave him because he's fed you the line

Of "If you ever try to leave me, I swear to God, you'll die."

So you sit and suffer in silence

Trying your hardest to get by,

But you're so tired of living in this less than perfect life.

One day, you've had enough and you finally go to leave him,

But when you look into his sleeping eyes,

You know you'd rather keep on seeing him.

He's the only love you've ever known,

Even though it's hatred,

So you choke the guilt and fear back down

And pretend that you don't hate him.

Eventually, your mom gets the call

Her only daughter has been murdered

Because she felt trapped in a relationship

And she could've screamed, but no one would've heard her.
