I wrote this song about one of my biggest inspirations after she had separated from her husband. I wanted it to be as authentic as possible so that's why it's a little off in terms of rhyming and the flow of the story I guess. I thought the best person to sing this would be the great Carrie Underwood. Carrie, this is for you.
"The House They Lived In"
Verse
There was a girl I knew who met her everything
Now he was a lot to take in but she sure took him in
She held her heart on her sleeve for all the world to see
She loved him so, I know, she tried to make him believe it
Chorus
"Tear down these walls" / she screamed from the hall
She can't take it no more / she's hurt from the fall
And she's aware they were a perfect fairytale to live up to
But she knew she couldn't live it even if she wanted to
This home is broken owned by love they've given
Now this is the house they lived in
Verse
There is a girl I know who won't let this break her down
She once was lost and she thought she would never be found
But like every other day, she's made it through the night
She'll know how to make it right
Chorus
"Tear down these walls" / she screamed from the hall
She can't take anymore / she's hurt from the fall
And she's aware they were a perfect fairytale to live up to
But she knew she couldn't live it even if she wanted to
This home is broken owned by love they've given
Now this is the house they lived in
This is the house they lived in
This is the house they loved in
This was the love they've given
Chorus
"Tear down these walls" / she screamed from the hall
She can't take anymore / she's hurt from it all
And she was aware they were a perfect fairytale to live up to
But she knew she couldn't live it even if she wanted to
He was a fairytale she's forgiven,
And this is the house they lived in.
