Lassitude ~14

Grace Dallas' pov:

"Grace! I'm coming in!" I hear my brother from outside. I wipe my eyes with a few tissues as I look at myself in the mirror. I feel terrible and tired, but stressed. I hear the door to the girls bathroom open and close and I slowly turn to see my brother gaping at me.

"Gracie..." he says softly starting to make his way over to me. I continue to sniffle and he opens his arms as I walk slowly over to him and wrap my arms around him tightly. "Sis, tell me what's the matter," he whispers and kisses my head as he wraps his arms around me securely.

"I-I'm just having a really bad day," I hiccup and lean into his shoulder. "I can't do anything right."

"Hey, don't think of the negatives. That's not true, I'm sure whatever went wrong can be fixed."

"Dad is going to be so mad at me," I whimper painfully and close my eyes. He won't let me off.

"No, he won't. He loves you very much. Don't think that way. Why would he be so mad at you?"

"For leaving this morning, for giving him the silent treatment, for getting a detention today."

"You what?!" Ryan pulls back slightly and his eyes are wide. "How? Grace, What could you have done to get detention?"

"It was an accident. I'm so tired that I wasn't thinking straight and I talked back to one of my professeurs and they were really mad at me. Ryan, I apologized and now I have detention with the headmaster today. Moms going to be so disappointed in me."

"I'll explain to them."

"They're going to call mom and dad and tell them to come and get me later after detention."

"Do you want me to stay with you? I'll go to detention with you."

"You have class Ry," I sigh guiltily. "I don't want you to get in trouble."

"I'll stay with you. I'm not going to let you go on your own like this." He wraps his arms around me and pulls me close to him.

"Ry-"

"Grace, I'm going with you." I nod slowly and let my head rest on his shoulder again. "How about we get you something to eat before we head to the headmaster's office?" I nod as he gives me a small sad, but smile and he picks up my bag as we slowly make our way out of the bathroom.

We both walk out and I notice Cooper standing from his seat immediately and coming over to us. He looks between us and looks towards me with a worried look.

"Is everything alright?" He asks. Ryan looks towards me and decides to answer.

"Grace is just having a rough day. She... well we are going to serve detention with the headmistress."

"Oh..." Cooper looks towards me with a sorry look. "Do yo-"

"No," I shake my head. "You are not going to detention with me."

"Okay... I'll see you later then." He takes his bag and turns to make his way somewhere. I turn to my brother guiltily.

"Did I do something wrong?" I ask. He seemed slightly aggravated.

"No... he's just worried for you." I bite my lip nervously.

"Do you think he'll cancel today's date?" Ryan's eyes widens slightly.

"You two have a date?"

"Oh... he never..." I have now realized I've never actually talked to my brother about ever dating his best friend or even telling him that he is my crush.
