The woman couldn't help but smile widely as her boyfriend moved closer beside her. "I love you, Carrie." He said, softly kissing her cheek causing her to blush even more than she already was, if that's possible. "I mean that with all my heart and I don't want you to doubt that, ever." He added, softly resting his hand on the side of her face as he kissed her lips softly.
"I won't. I love you too, Mike." She replied, smiling before they kissed again, her able to hear footsteps on the stairs of the her front porch. "I'm sorry. That's Kennedy." Carrie pulled away, kissing his cheek before she stood from the couch. "Honey,-" the woman opened the door for her daughter. Kennedy didn't greet her mother in response; she kept her head down and continued walking into the house and up the stairs to her bedroom. "I um, I think I need to go talk to her." Carrie said to Mike, feeling badly for suggesting him leave.
"That's alright." Mike replied, looking down into her eyes, unable not to smile. "I hope everything is okay. Call me later, okay?" Mike said as she walked him over to the door.
"I will. Be careful, I love you." Carrie stood on her toes to softly kiss his cheek only he turned to catch her lips.
"I love you too." He chuckled as the two of them pulled away. She bit her lip gently as he walked out of the house, her closing the door behind him.
Carrie was worried about her daughter. For weeks, Kennedy had been coming home without saying a word to her mother. Kennedy kept her head down and never spoke much around anyone anymore. She wanted to know what was going on but she knew that her daughter more than likely wouldn't tell her.
"Hey, Ken." Carrie said quietly as she slowly entered the girls bedroom. She interrupted her daughter putting make up over a bruise on her face. "Honey," she said as her daughter jumped, putting down the make up and pulling her hair down. "What was that?" Carrie asked, confused more than anything as Kennedy sat on her bed.
"It was nothing, I ran into the door earlier." Kennedy shrugged with a slight chuckle, only Carrie could see through her daughter's transparent lies.
"I'm sure that um, that the door did this to you too right?" Carrie picked up her daughters arm, exposing the bruise on her wrist, obviously from where someone had grabbed her aggressively. "Kennedy, tell me what's going on. Is someone from school,-"
"No, mom, I am fine. Please, just stop if I wasn't fine I would tell you." Carrie sighed at her daughter's words.
"I'm finding a hard time believing that for some reason. I need to know who's doing this to you. Kennedy are you scared of them? I don't understand." Carrie questioned, following the young girl into her closet.
"No one, Mom, I am fine." Kennedy sighed, pressing her lips together and shaking her head, rather immediately. "Please, just drop this. Don't you trust me?" She asked, looking at her mother seriously.
"How can I trust you after this? Kennedy you've been like this for months, ever since you started dating Ethan." Carrie said, suddenly stopping mid sentence as she realized what she'd said, Kennedy lowered her head as she thought about her relationship with her boyfriend. "Is that who's been doing this?" Carrie's heart broke for her daughter as the young girl shook her head no, hoping that her mother couldn't tell that she was lying.
"No, why won't you just leave me alone?" Kennedy raised her voice, causing Carrie to jump.
"You're not seeing him." Carrie shook her head, running her fingers through her hair. "Kennedy,-"
"He loves me mom." Kennedy said defenselessly.
"He loves you? Kennedy would I ever hurt you?" Carrie questioned her daughter.
"No but moma,-"
"I would never hurt you. I would never leave a mark on you. I love you Ken, that is not love." Carrie shook her head as a small tear fell down her face.
"It's not going to happen again mom. He promised." Kennedy shook her head, hating the sight of her mother crying, especially when it was because of her.
"That's what he told you?"
"He promised."
