The next few days were the hardest for Kennedy. She knew that Ethan could tell something was wrong. She was far too scared of him to confront him head on. She hadn't seen him in three days and she didn't want to.
"Baby, whatever I did, let me make up for it. I miss you darling." Are text message from Ethan lit up the teenager's phone, causing Olivia and Carrie to immediately glance, Kennedy deleting the notification.
"Have you texted him?" Olivia asked, watching Kennedy take a bite of the pizza they were eating.
"No," she quickly replied, shaking her head.
"Kennedy, have you two slept together?" Her mother questioned, causing Kennedy to put down her food.
"You don't trust me? I told you we haven't." Kennedy sighed, having doubts about telling the two everything.
"It's not that I don't trust you. I just think you're scared of telling the truth, what might happen." Carrie explained herself, the teenager shaking her head. "I'm sorry. I'm just worried about you. Have you seen him at all?" The mother scarcely asked, biting her lip softly.
"I uh, I saw him yesterday." The girl shrugged, causing Olivia to look up from her salad.
"What? Where? You didn't go to his house did you?" She put down her fork.
"No, he met me at the gas station. He knows I go everyday after school." Kennedy explained, confusing Carrie. Why wouldn't her daughter tell her this?
"What happened? What did he say honey?" Olivia looked at Kennedy seriously, watching the teenager shrug her shoulders. It was like she'd crawled back into her hole again. Before, it was hard to talk about but she did it anyways. Now, it was like she had become scared again. "Look at me, I love you. You know I love you but I can't help you if you don't tell me what happened, okay?" Olivia held her goddaughter's hand tightly, the girl nodding her head.
"Can we just talk about it later? Not now." Kennedy asked, not wanting to tell Olivia what happened in front of her mother.
The number one thing Kennedy was scared for was disappointing her mother. Carrie meant everything to her and the last thing she wanted was for her mother to be ashamed of her.
Kennedy wanted to sever all ties with Ethan but at the same time she didn't. She didn't want him to hate her. She didn't want to not have someone to lean on when she needed them.
"I know this is hard,-"
"Don't even. Like you know what it feels like to be in a situation like this." Carrie was shocked by her daughter's words, and by the way she'd cut her off.
"Olivia," Carrie sighed once her daughter had stood up and walked out of the restaurant.
"It's alright. Just give her some time." Carrie nodded, Olivia holding her hand for support.
"I only want to help." Carrie explained, her best friend nodding.
"I know," Olivia hugged Carrie as the two of them stood up.
