Three weeks had gone by since Kennedy's attempt at suicide and her confessing to Olivia about how Ethan had raped her.
Even though Ethan was now in jail and he would be for the next twenty years, Kennedy was struggling still to keep herself together and to "be okay".
.......................
"Homeschooling?" Carrie questioned her daughter's suggestion, confused and worried as to why she no longer wanted to go to school.
"Mom, please. I don't want to go there anymore. People walk around making jokes about having sex; it's not something funny to joke about mom. The people there, they're horrible. Please," Kennedy tried explaining herself but she felt that no matter what she said her mother wouldn't understand.
"Come here," Carrie said as she stood from the couch, opening her arms to her daughter. Kennedy hugged Carrie tightly as she let out a deep sigh, trying her hardest not to cry.
"Mom, I think about it every single day. Going to school every day there only makes things worse." Kennedy confessed, tears streaming down her face now.
"Look at me sweetie, I'll think about it. That's a huge change and I will have to try and figure out how we would do that, okay? I promise, this isn't a no." Carrie placed both hands on her daughter's face, before hugging her once more.
"Alright, Olivia and I were going to meet in the park later, is that alright?" The teenager wiped her face for the second time, Carrie nodding her head "yes".
"That's fine. I want you home before dinner later, okay? Mike is coming over and I'm making tacos." Carrie smiled gently, causing her daughter to mirror her expression, tacos being one of Kennedy's favorite foods. "Wait," Carrie stopped her daughter from walking away from her. "Ken, are you going to be okay?" Carrie asked, biting her lip gently. "I just, honey I don't know what I'd do without you." The woman pressed her lips together nervously as she looked down at her daughter.
"Mom, I'm not going to try again if that's what you're asking." Kennedy answered, mumbling as she looked at anything in the room other than her mother.
"I'm sorry,-"
"It's okay. I'm gonna go get ready." She cut off her mother, before walking up the stairs and into her bedroom.
Even though Kennedy had told her that she wasn't going to attempt suicide, Carrie couldn't help but worry still. The mother was afraid even to leave the house. The last time that she thought that everything was fine when she left the house she came home to her daughter in the middle of attempting suicide, after she was raped. How could Carrie ever be able to leave Kennedy alone again.
"Liv, please, be careful with my baby." Carrie said while on the phone with her best friend.
"We're only going to the park Carrie. Everything is going to be okay. You know that you can trust me." Olivia replied, chuckling a bit.
"I know, I know but I just want you to be careful."
"We will."
