"C'mon, [Y/N], it can't be /that/ scary. I mean, it's just a boat!" Naruto had yelled earlier, and now he was saying it again.
It's just that I feel like I'm going to fall into the water anyways, and then something scary is gonna get me. I shudder.
Sasuke sighed as Sakura tried to boast, "There's no way I'd be afraid of something so silly."
I pouted and stepped into the boat and say with everyone else.
"Okay then," Kakashi dismissed that had been in discussion before, and focused on a new topic. "Tazuna, you'll have to answer my questions, or I'm afraid that we'll have to cut this mission short as soon as we get to the other side."
Tazuna nodded in understanding as a bead of sweat rolled down the side of his face.
"So," he began, "You filed this as a C rank mission, which asks for standard protection against thieves and robbers. These ninja that just attacked us in the forest, though..."
"They were chuunin. Way above that level." I finish for him.
"Correct. By the looks of it, you knew these nin were after you. Am I right?" Kakashi questions.
Tazuna nods.
"Who would want to stop the construction of the bridge? Wouldn't it help the nation?"
"You may know him. He is a small man who casts a long and deadly shadow."
"A long and deadly shadow?" Naruto asks.
"His name is Gato." (HAHA GATO CORRECTS TO FAR I)
"Gato? The famous business leader?" Kakashi asks.
"Yes. He earns money using gangs and ninja. He used his wealth to take over our nation. In an ocean country, the one who owns the sea owns the land and the people. You see, once we build this bridge, he will no longer be able to keep us. I am the bridge builder."
"But why would you ask for a C rank instead of the A rank this mission is actually is? Why hide it?" I question.
"It's because the land of waves is a small, impoverished, nation. They can barely afford the construction of the bridge, let alone the cost of an A or B ranked mission. It's too expensive."
I nodded in understanding as I listened.
"But you wouldn't leave this old man all alone, would you? I would be killed in an instant. Oh, but dont feel bad. My daughter would be so sad, and my young grandson would be calling for me. 'Grandpa, grandpa!'"
'He's guilt tripping us... but it's not like I would have denied it anyways...'
"Looks like we'll need to carry out this mission to the end," Kakashi and I say in unison.
"Thank you, I'm grateful." Tazuna says.
"This is as far I can take you," the boat man whispers.
"Okay then," I say, grateful to have been off of the boat. "Thank you for taking such a risk as to bring us across."
We travelled across more land until we reached another clearing, where Naruto decided to goof off.
Naruto POV
There's no way Sasuke is gonna beat me! I'll show him!
I sense something nearby, and as a reaction, I throw a kunai in that direction. Everyone yelps.
