Laylas POV

The buzzer went off signaling the end of the game. I immediately went to the bench and grabbed a water bottle; I sat taking a huge gulp. A few of my teammates came up to me and said ‘good game’ before they went into the locker room. I followed everyone in, quickly changing into the sweats that I had packed. Coach came in and gave us a few critiques before he left us to finish getting dress and leave. I was the first one out of the locker room, and I quickly went to find my family. I easily found them standing in a circle talking to Calum and the other boys.

“Hey guys.” I smiled walking up to them. They all chorused a mix of ‘hey’ and ‘good game.’  We talked for a few minutes before my coach came over saying he needed to talk to me for a minute. I politely excused myself, following my coach over to a man.

“Mr. Sanders, this is Layla.” Coach introduced us.

        “Hello”

“Hello Layla I have heard a lot about you.” He smiled shaking my hand.

        “Layla, Mr. Sanders –“

        “Call me Mark”

“Okay. Well mark here is from England and coaches a league for football there. His girls are the best of the best, usually getting picked up to play professional. He and I have been talking about you a lot lately and he was very impressed with you performance today.”

“What your coach is trying to say is that I would like to offer you a position on my team.” Mark interrupted. I stood there gob smacked for a minute.

“Wait so you’re offering me to come to England to play football, and then possibly to get picked up to play professional in the future.”

“Yes. I see a lot of talent in you and I think you can make it.”

“You do know im not done with school yet right?”

“I’ve already started to figure that out. You are up to being able to graduate early. You could graduate in May just in time to leave and go play in England.” My coach interrupted.

“Well I would have to talk to my family first, but as long as my mom says yes I will do it.” I smiled.

“Great!” mark exclaimed. “Here’s my card just give me a call if you have any questions, and I will be back next Friday and we can sign the papers then if that’s alright with you.” I nodded. He sent me a quick ‘congrats’ before walking over to his car and driving off. My coach also sent me a quick ‘congrats’ before going to his office. I stood in the same spot in shock for a few minutes. I didn’t know what to think. Calum and I were talking about what if this was to happen not even 3 days ago, and now my dreams are coming true. Wait but that means I have to leave my family, friends, Calum and go back to England. The place we ran away from and sweared never to go back to. How could I tell my mom? She would never let me go, especially to England. I shook my head, I’ll think about this later. I went back to the group who were huddled together staring at me confused.

“He just wanted to see if I would come and play for his competitive league, no biggie.” I shrugged. They all nodded, none of this being new. Every year people come and ask for me to be on competitive leagues, and every year I turn them down. I have my league that I play and I don’t ever plan to change. Everyone gave me a quick hug and ‘goodbye’, leaving to get and their cars and go home. When everyone left Calum leads me to his car and unlocked it, throwing my bag in the backseat.

“So what did that guy really want?” Calum asked me starting the car.

“He wanted to know if I wanted to play on his competitive league…… in England.” I told him mumbling the last part.

“Seriously that great Lay!” He exclaimed reaching over the divider to give me a hug.

        “Not really.”

        “And why would that be?”

“My mom doesn’t want me to graduate early to play for a team here, she definitely won’t let me go back to England!” I exclaimed, before I clamped my hand over my mouth. I hadn’t told him about what had happened. I hadn’t told anybody.

“What’s wrong with England they have some of the best teams in the world?” He gave me a confused expression.

“A lot happened there. Some things that I haven’t told anybody or talked about in years. I wouldn’t even know where to start. Just thinking about it makes me want to break down again, and im not even sure if I would want to go back there. Not yet at least.”

“Well how about we go home, get something to eat, then maybe we can make a list of the pros and cons of this. And remember whatever you decide, im gonna stand behind you 110%.” He suggests. I nod too tired to think about this. He turns back around in his seat and pulls out of the parking lot, and before I know it the lull of the motor has put me to sleep.
