"The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution"
- J.K.Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
_____
The next day at school Normani skipped. Her parents allowed her to stay home knowing how close the girls used to be. Of course, they still believed them to be that close. The truth was opposite to that.
Mid-way through high school, Normani finally found herself in the radar of the most popular girls. She had been trying for two years and every week that passed Camila would crack a joke about her attempts. Jokes she stopped cracking after Normani made it onto the cheer team. Joining the cheer team Normani befriended Dinah and Ally, who quickly introduced her to Lauren. Camila and her weekend movie nights for switched out for football parties. Lauren had managed to drive a wedge between the two. Some old grudge she held. Lauren never fully told her why she disliked Camila so strongly, she always came up with something.
When Normani cancelled lunch on Lauren for Camila Lauren ganged up on Camila. This was the first of many beatings. They took place when Camila was alone it wasn't until a few months ago that Normani witnessed one.
When Camila's birthday came around Lauren manipulated Normani to organise a surprise party for her. To which only Normani, Lauren, Dinah and Ally showed up to. Though it was short lived because Camila was doused in slime and feathers upon walking through the door.
Lauren convinced Normani that Camila was the one to fill her locker with dirt when in reality she had made Dinah do it for her. She slowly managed to turn Normani against Camila. Once the wedge was in place she could do as she pleased, which she did.
In an art room, she found a small moleskin notebook full of scribbles. The handwriting resembled that of an eight-year-old but she could make out what it said. Something that interested her was the hearts doodled on the pages. The same initials were scribbled in them. N.K.H
It didn't take long for Lauren to figure out who's belonging she had and who the writings were about. Once she had that information her goal to ruin Camila's high school life became easier. She had the very tool to do so.
_____
"Just tell me what you want and get it over with" Camila did her best to maintain her brave front and to continue to sound stoic.
Lauren hummed as she ran a finger along the journal's spine. "I don't think you understand how leverage works"
She stalked over the smaller Latina and placed a finger under her chin. She rubbed gentle small circles with her thumb as she stated directly into her eyes with an evil smirk on her lips. "Leverage works as I own you. There is no way to get it over with."
Camila visibly gulped as her brave front faltered. "What do you mean?"
Lauren let out a low chuckle as she dropped her arms and tipped her head back. "Now that sweets, is for you to find out for yourself"
Camila stood and watched with worried eyes as Lauren sauntered away. The girl who had tainted her for months now had her journal, was blackmailing her and refused to tell her anything.
