Louis' POV

The moment I had left Sophia's house I regretted it immediately, but I couldn't very well turn back. I can just imagine her face as she walks back into her room and sees that I'm gone. And her parents, what would they think of me now? Not that it mattered I suppose. It wasn't like I would ever see them again.

Despite me not needing to breathe, I could still feel my chest tighten. I stopped in the middle of what seemed to be a playing field and closed my eyes. I'd lost track of how fast I had been running and for how long, but going by the sea scented air and lack of cloud coverage I must be somewhere near Dover. That was nearly 50 miles away from Sophia and her questions.

I knew I couldn't stay away for too long, sooner or later the family would come looking for me and drag me back. Or they would leave me to wander alone until the Vampire Council picked me up and accused me of going rogue. But they care for me too much to do that, at least I think they do.

I sunk to the floor in a huff. It was quiet in the park, and I laid down with my knees propped up. As far as I could tell, I was alone in the park. There were no street lights around either, just the stars luminating the sky overhead. A memory stirred, one from a lifetime a go, a memory I could never escape.

"Look, Peter" he'd said. My father was a tall man, with a full head of hair and stubbly face. My mother used to say that it was 'tickly', but then she had died of cancer and there was no longer any way of telling.

"Those stars there, they make up a constellation called Orion" he told me, pointing up to the stars in the sky. But I didn't look up at the stars, I looked up at him. The person who loved me most in the world, who had looked after me when mum died and had been strong enough for us both to survive. When I grew up I wanted to be just like him. I was the height of his hip and had only just turned 6.

There was a rustling in the trees behind us and my dads head whipped around. He narrowed his eyes and furrowed his brow. "Stay right there, son. I'll be back in just a minute". And then he was gone.

He had always been too curious for his own good, but I could tell that something would happen. I felt scared and began to panic. Just as I was about to follow him into the trees, I heard a scream. It was a mangled cry, one of terror that changed my life forever.

"Dad!" I screamed, struck with horror.

"Run, Peter, run away" was all I could hear in between the shouts. I didn't waste any time, I was soon sprinting as fast as I could putting as much distance between me and my dad as possible.

That night, I curled up in an old abandoned warehouse and cried myself to sleep. They never found his body, never found out what killed him. And they never came looking for me. But I was never the same again.

I rubbed at my temples frantically to get rid of the faint screams of my father. I had simply forgotten the pain and the terror that I had felt. I had even forgotten my own name. But that's what happens when you become a monster, everything that once meant something to you is now insignificant. A wave of hate and regret flooded over me. If he hadn't been so bloody nosy then maybe I wouldn't be like this, maybe the rest of my childhood wouldn't have been a living hell. That was just a silly 'what if', it did happen and there's nothing I can do to change it.

"Well well well, fancy seeing you here" said a patronizing voice from behind me, ripping me away from my angry thoughts. I turned my head slightly to see Elin standing above me, a smug grin on her face. Her arms were crossed across her chest and her eyes were lit up with delight. Certainly not a good sign.

"What are you doing here?" I sighed crashing my head back down into the grass and closing my eyes.

"I could ask you the same thing" she replied.

"How did you find me?" I asked, hoping that my confusion wasn't obvious in my tone of voice.

"Oh come on, it wasn't that hard. Niall noticed that you were missing so I immediately thought to come to your little girlfriends house. I got there just in time to see you running off the other way. Trouble in paradise?"

"If you were jealous you could've just said" I sarcastically pointed out, ignoring her snide comments. I crossed my arms up behind my head and yawned.

"Don't be a twat Louis, it's time to go home"

"I'm good here, thanks for the offer though. But I'm fine, there's no need to babysit for Zayn"

I heard her sigh and then I was suddenly yanked up from the floor by my arms. "Was that necessary?" I asked rubbing my now sore wrists.

"Super strength comes with its advantages you know" she pointed out. "Now come on, let's got" she repeated, her tone becoming sterner.

"No , you're not the boss of me" I spat and turned away from her.

Apparently that was the wrong thing to do. She spun me around and threw me over her shoulder, but she wasn't the only one with powers. I forced my body mass forwards and flipped her over and to the ground with a loud thud.

She looked at me exasperated. "Don't fucking touch me again. And she's not my girlfriend" I growled, and began to walk away.

"Get back here right now" she screamed, but her voice was already becoming distance. "You broke my nail!"

I pointlessly rolled my eyes as my back was still to her and carried on walking in the direction of home. I would've eventually gotten there anyway, there was no need for her to come after me. Plus I hate being told what to do. She thinks she's better than me, but we're all the same, all stuck like this. And nothing can ever change that.
